I have been second guessing my decision on a bezel halo. I wanted the bezel to define my PoH stone shape. The only reason I''m second guessing it is because I want the ring to appear soft, not harsh. I''m 99% sure I''ll stick with the bezel, I just want to hear from ya''ll. I''m not interested in trying to make my stone larger, so I wouldn''t choose the prong halo for that reason alone.

Maytal confirmed that the bezel would accentuate the stone shape; the prong wouldn''t but would give a softer look. She added the bezel would be thin and delicate, and that''s what she would choose if it were for her.

Here''s the sketch with a bezel halo.

One of her bezel halos (though these stones in the halo a tad bigger than mine will be)

Here is a similar ring with prongs...

I voted prong set because it will also make your stone bigger in my opinion. I think sometimes bezel halos can make stones appear a smaller than prong halos. I''m all about size. LOL.

im with gypsy. i like the prong look. i just went through the same. i like the prong now because i think it looks softer and the stone looks bigger.

Hi sera,
hmmm tough one. Although, lovin the PoH like u do, I voted bezel. Mainly because I like the idea of defining the shape, but also I think that if thats what maytal chose she knows her stuff and how her designs will work best

I love the prong look also.

I voted prong halo because I think that with the prong set halos the stone stands out more and the halo is more of a backdrop. To me, the bezel set halos look more like a solid piece. That''s not to say that is a bad thing, just less emphasis on the stone itself. Did that make any sense at all? It''s still early here!

Hi Sera,

I vote bezel but with a much narrower bezel than the one you show in the illustration or the picture. I think the idea of defining the stone is a good one, but I see that you don''t want to do so at the expense of creating a "structured" look. So the solution to me seems to be to have the jeweler create a thin bezel. I am really glad you wrote about this b/c yesterday when we were talking all about halo rings and diamond size around the halo, I started to think about that in relation to my own halo ring. And I noticed that the bezel around my cushion gemstone is REALLY thin, I mean THIN. You can barely see it but for the milgraining. I also noticed that the entire halo is thin and almost flat. I like that b/c it serves to define the square shape but at the same time it creates a soft look. You can see a picture of it if I could figure out how to post a link to that thread. Or, you could go to my posts and find the one entitled "My Legacy Ring" in the Gemstones forum. The picture taken by the appraiser shows a good view of this as opposed to the handshots, I think.

I voted bezel. Your shape is so unusual, I would want that to be distinct. Also, I am with whoever said to trust Maytal''s eye, she has a good one!! Also, personally I just like bezel halos better since they seem lower and I don''t like high settings. Either way I can''t wait to see it!

I voted bezel, in large part b/c I prefer the profiles of bezel halos and I am obsessive about such details!

I figured out how to do it. I had to rename the file. Here is a pic of the thin bezel going around the stone. Though the picture doesn''t show it, the entire halo is very thin when you view the ring tilted at an angle.

oooh...pretty, Isabel!!!

I have prongs, so perhaps I would vote for prongs...but that has nothing to do with your choice. You love the bezel. Don't second guess yourself. Go with your gut and get the bezel, darlin'. Only you can know what you'll be happy with.

I''d vote for the prong setting.

well, I really like both. I love the tiffany legacy, one of my all time favorite halo rings and like the way the stone is set. in any daniel k empress ring, the stone has also been bezel set and I love it. But then when pearlmans sent me the empress i was surprised that the stone was prong set in that ring and you know I LOVED it so i made sure that they would prong set the stone again in the remake. I voted prong set just because i really like how it looked on my ring. But i do think if you prong set, to set it as low as possible. i don''t like when the prong set stones sit up high above the halo.

I love the look of the bezel. It defines the shape and give focus to the center stone. The prongs don't give the eye anything to grab on and create the 'softer' look. You should ask yourself if you find the geometric or flowy shapes more pleasing to the eye.

I voted bezel because I think it accentuates the shape more. It also makes the PoH stand out from the halo.

ONLY if the bezel looks like the one Isabelle posted....the milgraining makes it look less harsh...imho.

My vote was for the prong. I am partial because my halo has tiny delicate double prongs that my jeweler said made the centre stone the centre of attention & maximized size. My pongs are very similar to this Vathe setting (my inspiration when creating my ring!)

Oops, wouldn''t let me post

I''m sorry, what was the question again....

I am wayyy tooo busy drooling over that photo of the sapphire with the bezel....

I would have to say my vote is for bezel.

Still droooooooooolllllliiiiinnnnnnggggg

I love both looks, so you can''t go wrong with either. I have a bezel set halo...and what I love most about it is that it''s very smooth on top (never catches on anything which is great with 2 small kids). However, that being said, one of my favorite halos is from the Michael B Trois line, which has prongs. I do feel like the prongs make the center stone look a little bigger...but for your stone, I may opt to go with the bezel to accentuate the unique POH shape and also because that''s what MH suggested.

Check out this thread: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/halo-setting-bezel-or-prong.35350/ I know that it''s specifically referring to round halos, but you can view them side by side (FWIW).

Hi Keepingthefaith-

Thank you for the nice compliment. That''s really nice of you. The stone is actually a tanzanite, which I wrote a long blog about on here maybe a month ago when I first found this awesome wonderful website. I really appreciate your kind words!

Thanks for all the responses- they are helpful. I will mention that when I was discussing a bezel with Maytal, I emphasized delicate. Then again when we spoke, she had emphasized that it would be "thin and delicate." I do not think the halo would be as thick as on the emerald (but will clarify with Maytal). Actually, IRL that bezel doesn''t stand out so much like it does in the picture; it is more delicate than it appears.

I do like both looks like many of you... and I also don''t like when the stone is set too high in a prong halo.

Softness and definition are both important to me. I guess that could sound like two opposite ideas, but I don''t think it has to. Also, the outside edge of the halo will be softened corners - not curved, still cut corners, but soft - so maybe I shouldn''t be afraid of the definition.

I''m going to be thinking (read: obsessing) about these responses and hopefully have a re-decision (

Isa... LOVE that tanzanite!

I voted bezel. I like the center stone in a halo to be set low, and I really just love the look of a bezel with a halo
