HI:

I wanted to revisit this topic for 2013--since the last one was fun and interesting. Or at least to me....

https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/best-purchase-of-2012.183199/

I know 2013 has a few weeks left, but if you can share, please do so.

Once again, I will start. For me/us, 2013 brought lots of home reno's and jewellery changes but I decided the "thing" that made it the "best" for me/us, had to be something my DH and I both LOL and said "awesome" at the same time. And it wasn't the Kohler Briolette sink! (men!!)

Last year, it was the Weber BBQ.

And this year, it was the water tank. Rheen. Looks titanium to me! Best purchase of 2013! :appl:

cheers--Sharon

Tough call. Housewise I'd say our basement waterproofing and mold remediation, despite the fact that I am still crying over that money. Outside of that...Hmmm our trip to Hawaii, because soon after our return the family member we just laid to rest on Tuesday took a serious turn for the worse and that trip was so incredibly amazing to have her along. Aside from just the memories with her, I got to meet a PSer that lives in the Islands AND go up to the summit of Mauna Kea and we saw SATURN and it's rings, clear as can be.

We put new floors in the majority of my home this year, and while it was expensive, and DIY (my god, I wanted to DIE by the end!) I'm more in love with our home than I ever have been. We also had the driveway paved, and that's been SO nice, as well. It was like off-roading to park the cars!

I got a new phone this year, I broke the screen on my Galaxy S3 and ended up picking up an iphone 5 instead, and I'm SO Much happier with it. It's a much better size for me, and I didn't realize how unhappy I was with the Galaxy until I got the new phone.

Bling- I bought a couple of cure bracelets that I'm in love with, and wear daily. They are all not very nice diamonds, but they are DBTY style, one has a single 20 pointer, one is 5 stones, ~25 points, and then two with little pave shapes.

ETA: We also put in new storm doors that are just gorgeous! Also, much more functional and energy efficient. We went a little reno crazy this year. Our home is a duplex with an upstairs and downstairs apartment (not side by side), and since it's a starter home, not a forever home, we'd been holding off on any major projects. Well, we did a lot of our wish list stuff this year, because plans change, and like I mentioned above, I'm so proud of our home now. Especially knowing how much work we've done ourselves. Sweat equity, baby!

Our best purchase of 2013 was our wedding!

My new e-ring, his hammer-finished gold band, my sapphire & diamond pendant, a professional photographer, my gown, my shoes (they hurt but were gorgeous with the dress!), the winery, the spectacular extra goodies for guests (bottle of wine, 2 glasses, basket, cork screw, and chocolate truffles), dendrobium orchids (same variety my other grandma gave me for HS graduation just a year before she died), mani/pedi with full set, kippah from Australia for DH, breakfast with our guests, extra night at the winery for us to enjoy alone, beautiful ketubah...

It took us nearly 10 years to get there, but it was amazing! My grandparents were there with us and we have some wonderful pictures with them. They are getting older and Grandma has some health problems (including the start of memory issues) so having them there was very important for me. There were some bumps along the way, but I couldn't have asked for anything more special and "us".

Getting every single wall professionally repainted. It made the whole place look so much better. We're not handy :-o.

Probably our new Silestone quartz countertops. Love them, plus I got a killer deal during Home Depot's labor day sale. And I'm happy I did not go with granite.

Painful money spent but necessary: $12K worth of new doors and windows on the first floor of my house. Still need to do upstairs but I had leaking downstairs so it took priority!

Smartest purchase would be a motion sensor light in our utility room. That is where we come in from the garage. It is awesome when your hands are full and you come in to a dark house.

Best Bling. My EC ruby that I had mounted in a RHR.

Overall my best or favorite would have to be some Tom Everhart prints of Snoopy.

I'm hoping it WILL be the renovated shower stall currently under construx upstairs. The project 10 yrs in waiting - that kept getting bumped down the priority list by more urgent matters -- finally got our attention by failing dramatically into our living room below. Just simple white subway tile, light grey grout. But it will have a light inside now and ... did I mention that 10 yr. wait?

So far this year ... hmm ... not counting all the $$ spend on the health/meds/vets/specialists for our Pooch ... I guess it might be the splurgy Regina flannel tunic from CP Shades that I cannot stop wearing. Never spent more on a top in my life & agonized over it for days before buying. But: LOVE. I think it stands out because I wanted it so badly and it's not at all "practical" - so feels like a super special treat every time I put it on. Bonus for DH - Cleavage!

HI:

I love hearing peoples stories----the pleasure derived from renovations--new flooring, doors, counter tops.....and items to help make life easier or a pleasure to cook, etc.....and investment in beloved pets health and of course, travel. And a wedding! :appl:

And naturally, jewellery! Clothing and shoes always holds a soft spot for me....

Keep 'em coming! I live vicariously through others!

cheers--Sharon

Hands down our Tesla Model S!

Did not understand the "joy of driving" until we got our Savvy! :appl:

(A close second place was the bike trip to Monet's Gardens at Giverny during our Anniversary Trip in Paris. Talk about a dream fulfilled, and my husband loved it, too!)

Our trip to Italy this summer! The last time we'd gone was on our honeymoon. It was wonderful and romantic, and DH booked us at the same hotel in Rome where we'd stayed soooo many years ago.

I love reading about everyone's happy purchases. 2013 isn't over quite yet, so I'll choose one when it's officially Jan 1.

You didn't miss it. Being a bad PS'er, this was my big reveal. :wink2: It's not my everyday ring but when I wear it yes, I do love to look at it and watch that yummy OEC light show! In fact that might be one thing I miss about work - the wonderful LED lights in the elevators, and the LED "fluorescent" tubes they recently started using in the hallways. With the LED light tubes, it was having a hundred little spotlights on the ceiling! Disco ball city!

That ring is gorgeous! Glad it is still with a PSer!

We have (almost) exclusively LED lighting at home and I LOVE it! So sparkly
The tube LEDs to replace fluorescents are pretty easy to swap over to if you can find a place to buy the tubes. We got lucky and found them at an electronics store we shop at. They had gotten them as excess-stock from some place and were selling them $35 each! Hmmm..... I suppose I better find where to get a replacement in the event one ever goes out...

Our Calfee carbon tandem. The best (non bling) purchase of 2013. We drove 3 hours to the tandem specialty shop on Feb 2nd 2013 (groundhog's day-one of our favorite holidays) to get measured for the custom bicycle (it's made in California), ordered it same day and received it May 8th. We broke our cycling record this summer on the new bike (4,000 miles woohoo) because it is a dream to ride. Most enjoyable purchase of 2013 for sure and if you had asked me a few years ago if I would ever consider spending what I consider a small fortune for a bicycle I would have balked. Well, so glad we did because it is so worth it!

And my best bling purchase this year (Jan 2013) is my dear Bea-that my thoughtful and loving dh insisted on getting for me despite it meaning he put his garage project on hold. Love him!!!

2013 was a great year for us! We celebrated our 5 year wedding anniversary and my sweet hubby upgraded my e-ring to my new 2.52 antique emerald cut ring. That was definitely the best purchase of the year!

Following in close second was our 5 year anniversary trip to Providenciales, Turks & Caicos. We had an amazing time and can't wait to go back again soon! :sun:

Oh my goodness, SB. DOOOOO IIIITTT. It was the most amazing experience. Monet has been my favorite artist since I was knee high to a grasshopper, and actually standing on the Japanese bridge was incredible.
