I was just looking for some pearl earrings when I spotted this: http://www.rubylane.com/item/668884-3533/Gorgeous-White-Shell-Pearl-Vermeil I kind of love this woman for using a jewelry listing as a teaching moment on how women should stand up for themselves. Snippet for those who don't like to click through:
"I do have other styles of earwires, so if there is another type you would prefer, by all means, please request what you want at checkout.
For two years I taught Assertiveness Training in a "displaced homemaker" program at Daytona State College. All of the women were over forty. They had to be. Some were 85. Everyone's lives changed radically, because they learned to ask for what they wanted. The first really scary assignment for my students was to go to a restaurant ALONE for an evening meal and send the food back. You would not believe the terror BEFORE the ladies did the task. But I think you would believe the ecstasy that accompanied their victories. All of them had been victorious. Most had merely asked for their plate to be warmed a bit.
By the end of each course there was always a woman with a dramatic story. I most clearly remember the lady who came to the last class and announced that she had asserted with her dentist that he had to replace five crowns he'd made for her within that year that never felt right, and made it impossible for her to eat salads. One was part of a bridge. My student (as lady in her sixties) had to spend a fortune on that dental work. I was so thrilled to hear that she would not take no for an answer when the dentist told her he'd have to charge her all over again to redo the crowns. In the end, HE paid (which was only right), and she ended up with perfectly feeling crowns.
So, please, ask for the kind of earwires you want. Hopefully, the ones on the pair right now will be the ones you desire."
Having just written my first ... jewelry listing fan letter, I guess? ... I figured I'd share the love with you guys. This concludes today's test of the Circe is a Weirdo Service, and we now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.
