Being on PS and a bling fanatic

I have had my share of being in B&M stores and having sales people know nothing about jewelry and what they are selling...also friends and family purchasing jewelry that is absolutely overpriced or of poor quality...it probably irks you all...it definitely irks me.

do you sometimes hold your comments back or avoid talking about jewelry with others because you and they know you are knowledgable and might think their selection is not up to par?

I have a co-worker wearing a diamond eternity and it is such poor quality I totally feel for her, but hey, not everyone is like me and they don't necessarily care about it...but every girl deserves nice shiny bling!

Also, I sometimes get jewelry as a present..goodbye present from work or brithday present but it kinda irks me because it is poorly made or just plain ugly....argh...sometimes I wished I knew nothing about jewleyr so that I would be happy with just whatever! LOL

Yes, it is both a blessing and a curse! A few of my close friends and family members know but otherwise I don't talk about it. Kind of like someone who is really into stamp collecting or coin collecting, not going to assume other people are interested in my idiosyncrasities.

Since coming to pricescope I have definitely become harder to please. While my bling is better, I am much harder to buy for because now I am very specific about what I want. My hubby doesn't have the same eye for quality as I do. A bit of a problem, but I will live with it!

Yup, I really felt sorry for guys who were shopping for E-rings. I hear SA working them over like used car salesmen. I wanna say something butttt had to bite my tongue...

I constantly tell peeps that they can get better deals by importing from abroad as jewellery is so expensive in the UK, and have offered advice where to look for suitable vendors etc...

At the end of the day, it is their money for them to spend it which way they can, not mine, and beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

If they like/love what they have bought/been given, then I am happy for them.

I have to pick out my own jewelry and that makes both me and my husband happy because I end up with what I like!

I never comment on other people's jewelry (other than to say "pretty!" if they show it to me) unless they ask for my opinion before a purchase. My son-in-law, his brother, and my brother-in-law asked me for help buying e-rings and I steered them to WF and GOG so all three girls got great quality diamonds!

I hear ya. I know quite a bit more than I did when I joined PS, and low end stuff is hard to look at. I can imagine how some others here who know far more than I feel like when they see some of the garbage out there. It's heartbreaking when someone spends a lot of money on an engagement ring

I love jewellery and have quite a lot, although most is not expensive in a PS kind of way. Lots of silver and low end jade etc. Anyway people now make a habit of examining my jewellery when I run into them. Maybe they just like what they see, but I feel self conscious about it. Like there's a judgement being made...

I have a co-worker that has a lovely halo e-ring with pave band. Next to that she wears her pave wedding ring which is dark and the diamonds don't sparkle. I have wanted to ask her if she got the wedding band at the same store as her engagement ring, but I hold my tongue. It is nice to finally mention it somewhere.

I say nothing after the purchase other than "pretty" too unless specifically asked questions about the piece. If someone I care about wants my honest opinion I am not going to lie. However I will not go out of my way to critique a piece already bought unless specifically asked. If it was a stranger or an acquaintance I would not even get involved but it's different if it's a friend asking. I could not ignore a specific question asked by a friend even if the answer is not a good one. And maybe they can return it or exchange it.

But in any case I always believe that honesty is the best policy when dealing with people you love.

I agree Missy, with one caveat.
My first question in cases like this is: Do you have a return policy?

Because there is no point in saying anything if there is no recourse. UNLESS of course its a defective in structure or manufacture, and then I would recommend going to an appraiser and I'd offer my help in getting it returned/fixed.
