About two months before getting engaged, about 4 years after we started dating, my FI got an overseas assignment in Algeria. I don't see him for 8 weeks at a time. At the moment, it's 11 weeks due to an extended rotation. I then see him for about 2.5 weeks and then he goes back. It's already been a little over a year, with a little over a year left in his assignment. Then...we get married!

Before this, the longest distance was 4 hours driving for about two or so weeks at a time.

The hardest part is of course not being able to hug him when I want, and with a 6 and 7 (when time changes) hour time difference, communication is limited. However, we cherish the time we're together and miss each other like mad.

My husband is active duty military, so when he deploys it is normally at least 6 months before I see him. Last time it was a 15 month deployment, and he took his R&R at the 7 month mark, so we had 8 left after that. This time he is gone for 12 months and is taking his R&R at the 6 moth mark.

Mine was when we first got together in highschool.
He visited me in Singapore and he asked me to be his girlfriend but 3 days later he had to fly back to Melbourne for his uni.
I started crying 2 days before he went everytime I thought about it.
and we both cried lots on the morning before he left. It was tough but we got through that 4 months and I moved to Melb to join him.
