Be careful what you ask for - OEC?

The last two stones I have posted have been on the larger table, shallower side and have each had things that made me decide not to proceed.

I am currently working with a PS vendor who is very well respected. I asked for a small table, high crown, along with all the other criteria.

Now, THIS is a high crown! Or steep crown...or big crown! Does it look like a ring pop? And I mean not in a good way? It looks so top heavy to me. What would I need to worry about with a stone with these dimensions? I have been told by the vendor that there are no obstruction issues, no dark areas, nice faceting etc. In fact, I was told this is the type of stone PSers love. I just can't "see" it in the pictures.

Here are the stats:
depth: 62.2
table: 48
crown: 20.8
pavilion: 37.4

Thoughts?

Hm. I think that might be a little top-heavy ... but the bigger sticking point for me is that I don't like the facet pattern I'm seeing there. Would there happen to be any other images available?

Maybe it's the angle at which the photo is taken? Though it does look too big on top. And on the second pic, what's that blurriness at the edge of the table in the top left-hand corner (10-11 o'clock)?

20% is a very high crown. One of my OECs was 18% and it looked like a muffin! But that detail in and of itself it irrelevant. Don't focus on those micro details. Its the overall proportions that matter. This one has potential. I see one area in the face on photo -- the crescent of leakage or girdle reflection on the right of the table -- that makes me want more information. This vendor does not take good photos and his videos are not particularly useful for what I personally want to see. But this one is worth seeing in person if it meets your criteria.

Not too much IMO. Can easily get 16 to 17 in mrb fics. Octavia I have seen almost 25%, august vintage in the 20s.

Thanks all!

hmmmm....just not sure. I may have it sent, but I really wish I felt more confident that I would love it before doing that.

I really thought once I opened up my search to PS vendors it would be easy peasy...not so much!!! These buggers are hard to find! :(sad I kind of feel like I have run out of current options so I may just have to wait it out.

I just looked at the stats of the 1ct OEC GOG had sourced for me a while back. It had a 20% crown, 64% depth, 42.8% table. It was very pretty.

:wavey: Hi GemFever!

Upon further reflection, I think my concern is less about the dimensions at this point and more about the faceting I see in the front shot. It looks so chaotic...not pleasing. Not sure if it's the picture angle or what. I can't seem to get a better picture either.

I see what you mean about that photo. Bummer. It's true though, looking for these bigger stones is not easy, even through a PS vendor. Sometimes it is best to just wait and see what new stones show up.

Yes, it really is about timing and what is available. Sometimes the perfect stone just takes its sweet time is showing up. However, I would ask for a few more shots just to make sure the faceting is not pleasing to you because one pic may not be enough to show its true faceting. It could be deceiving. You have nothing to lose to ask for a few more pics (and perhaps a video). Good luck-if this is not the right OEC don't worry. The right one for you *will* find you or vice versa. What is meant to be...Good luck!!!

Missy, thanks! You are going to laugh but I send Adam the picture of your stone and said. I want one JUST like this (well, smaller and lower in color, but same make) since I saw you worked with him. Anyway, he seemed to think this one would work. I just don't see it! I can't seem to get many pictures though.

I will be patient! That will have to be my mantra!

Hi Bastecat! Yes, I saw that and immediately called and left a message. It IS the right size, but NOT the right price! ;) I like the sI1, but the color is just too high to fit in my budget. I will give it a shot anyway bc that facet pattern looks

In case it's confusing, I was at one point considering something in that budget, but my husband and I recently had THE TALK ;) and decided to stick with our original budget.

Adam has an amazing collection of old cuts and his pictures aren't always reflective of that. I would ask for more pics and also for him to keep an eye out for your requirements. I think he's a fantastic vendor to work with and he really has a stunning and exhaustive collection. My OEC didn't even have any pictures on the OWD site. Fingers crossed for you!

Missy - I SO wish NY was close and I could just go there and peruse the inventory! It would be so much easier than pictures! I will see if I can get more.

I think you just need to ship it out to see for yourself. The chaos is kozibe. some people love it some people don't but it's very common in old stones with large culets.
