Bargain price on new Hermes Birkin bag

Madame Bijoux, if I might ask -- what is the lowest price one might pay for a Birkin bought directly from Hermes - leather, or course...?

Lol, I'll be honest: I think me, my DH and my bank balance are all very glad I don't see the excitement in high end purses whatsoever. I tend to spend under $50 on purses because I'm very, very likely to leave a pen uncapped, upend a perfume sample in one, or leave an uncapped lipstick roaming around. Most memorably I stuck (why?! I don't remember!) a small thing of raspberry jam in my purse, only to find it exploded over everything a few days later. I'm just incredibly hard on purses, and have no desire to ruin a purse I spent hundreds or thousands on. (Er. And I fail to see the awesomeness in their styling, but that's my heathen trailer-park-bred nature showing I guess! )

I think the color of the one on ebay is just awful!

Ditto.
To me Hermes Birkin bags remind me of an attache case.
They look the opposite of feminine.
I don't get the styling either.

I guess I won't be buying one.

OK, I give up!

Maybe it's because I'm a man. I can't see how one purse could be worth the price of two Mercedes-Benz SL convertibles.

But I will defer to you. :wavey:

Smart move, Danny!

MB's Hermes collection worth more than my house... ::)

To be fair, your something-collection is probably worth more than someone's house somewhere on this earth. Everything's relative.

MB, do you carry your purses or just collect them? If you actually use them, do you use them daily, frequently, on special occasions, or almost never? Do you wear the same one for a few months and then switch it out, or do you change frequently based on your outfit?

I agree with the statement that everything is relative. However, I also see where I'mDanny is coming from as far as the distribution of wealth in societies and the fact that it's very hard to relate when one has a moderate income! $260k, to be able to spend that on one item that is not a necessity (housing, health care if you are seriously ill, etc.) seems very outrageous. But, I wasn't put on this planet to decide what others should spend their money on, it's all beyond my control. All I have control of is what I do with my own disposable income. Tacori Ering's "live inside your own hula hoop" sentiment comes to mind when I read this thread. I may not share the same opinions with people who lead very affluent lifestyles, but probably that's because I'm not living that same lifestyle. To each their own, I say, and I hope that those with very large amounts of money do make the decision to assist those in need. I believe in humankind so far as they DO do the right thing most of the time, and I know that many very, very wealthy people are involved in philanthropy and I appreciate that. Treat yourself to a Birkin while at the same time giving to the financially-challenged=great in my book, and good for you.

Btw, M. Bijoux, I have always admired your collection and love it when you post pics of your latest acquisitions. They are stunning pieces, you have excellent taste. I may never come in contact with anyone who owns a Birkin, so thank you for presenting your pieces here. :appl: :wavey:

I think around 6k in the US or could be 7k for a small one.

I agree that it's hard to relate to, but I am sure BF's grandparents, aunts and uncles in Bangladesh would find how we live also very hard to relate to. BF's mom gave me a $500 handbag for Christmas. That must seem pretty outrageous in a country where a working class person is pulling in $1,000 a year.

ETA: and the Birkin pricetag must seem criminal!

sooo...you are saying that all PSers are criminals ?...

Handbags... diamonds... diamond... handbags... they're all luxury items, far removed from food and shelter. In a pinch jewelry is a bit more portable, and I imagine it could be traded for food, shelter, or safe passage, more easily than a fine leather handbag. Aside from that... luxury items.

Those birkins are probably a bit more luxury than I'll ever indulge in. But I love the design, and I'd love to someday have a purse that is that finely crafted, of the finest materials... fortunately it costs little to dream!

Excellent point, VRB! Jewelry definitely could be carried and traded more easily than a handbag! Good form!

This is a great thread.

I'm back! Bebe, the small black bag is called the Constance - it's my favorite one that H makes. VR Beauty, the price of a Birkin depends on the size as well as the leather and hardware. A size 25 in Togo could start at around $6000.00USD. A size 30 could be in the high 8'S. to just under $10. Size 35'S also start from the high 8'S. Guilty Pleasure, I use the bags whenever I see a show or a concert, which is usually at least once a week. I generally try to match them with whatever I'm wearing because I worry about color absorption. Here are some more pictures:

I love the Rubis colour, very nice! It is a good pop of colour but it isn't too bright.

Hi, Lorelei! I took the picture of the Rubis in incandescent lighting, and it doesn't do justice to the color. I love the way Hermes colors look totally different under different kinds of lighting.

I love that about them too, my Rouge H Kelly is a real chameleon!

*sigh* I don't suppose "gold tone" harware is an option? - I kid! It's a beautiful collection - use it in good health!

I will tell you what my momma told me: everyone lives paycheck to paycheck. Some people just have to work a little harder at spending to feel the pinch by the end of the month.

Beautiful bags, Madam!

Thanks, Zoe :wavey:
