Bargain price on new Hermes Birkin bag

doesn't Victoria Beckam (sp) have a huge Birkin collection?

seems I've read she has many and it seems almost every pic
I see of her, she is carrying one.

Madame Bijoux has a fabulous collection. I always love hearing when she gets a new one.... She has great taste period.

Thanks, Kaleigh! Hope all is well with you. :wavey:

Trekkie:
don't own a Birkin and I doubt I will ever be able to, unless Madam Bijoux takes pity on me and writes me into her will!

Hi, Trekkie--I can be bribed ;))

Beware of E-Bay--it's full of crooks, cheats and fake bags. The re-sellers on E-Bay often charge double and triple what the H boutiques charge. The waiting list for a Birkin is a myth--I didn't have to wait for any of my 5 Birkins. The first one I got was in the store window and the other 4 were offered to me. The Hermes boutiques have plenty of Birkins and Kellys in the back of the store.

I'm not a purse/bag lover, but I think it's pretty. If I were ultra-rich, I could see myself carrying it :naughty:

I don't think any person should ever feel shame for the things he/she can afford. I don't have any desire to tell a person what he/she SHOULD spend his/her money on...in fact, I think we have more than enough of that in our lives already.

She does have a large Hermes collection Bebe of both Birkins and Kellys, she has recently designed her own range of handbags which are very expensive, not in Hermes price ranges for basic leathers, but still expensive. So I wonder if she will still carry Hermes or just be seen with her own bags in future...

AGBF & DF:
And I think Madam Bijoux is buying up all those Birkin bags, by the way.

I continue not to "get it" as to why a single purse is worth the better part of $300,000. I think that's just stupid if not insidious. That's my opinion anyway.

Hey Danny :wavey:

Think of your gold Cartier ring. You want it because it's perfection, not because it's Cartier. People have told you to get a different gold ring for a fraction of the price. Others may have told you to get the replica. You want the Cartier because it makes your heart sing.

That's what the Birkin does to us. I'd have to save for a life time to be able to buy the crocodile and diamond Birkin, but for a lucky few it hardly makes a dent.

*wanders off to find out how much second hand, slightly used kidneys go for these days*

$10k ea.....do you have 30 kidneys?? Trekkie,FYI...most of us only have two.

You go, madame! Like Kaleigh, I get great vicarious pleasure from your shopping expeditions. In fact, if it hadn't been for the purse discussions on Pricescope, I would never have bought a good bag. Now I own one...and I am going to use it for the first time today. When I go to see my divorce attorney. I bought it on eBay, but it was "verified". It's a lovely black Prada. The only other choice was one of my cloth Vera Bradley bags, which I have been carrying, exclusively, for for about 20 years!

My husband and I are getting along very well and may call off the divorce, but I think it's time t use the Prada! Aren't you due for a new Birkin? Wasn't the last one purchased way back in November!!!???

Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend

Hi, Deb! I got my last Birkin about a month ago.
This is she (30 Fauve Barenia):

The only time I've ever spent more than 20$ on a wallet/purse was when I went to Italy's School of Leather in Florence. I bought a small leather wallet which was made by hand by one of the student apprentices, and was my only thing in Italy that I bought that was not immediately eaten, haha.

I don't ever forsee myself buying a 250k purse seeing how I don't even presently carry a purse on a regular basis (I opt for either a book bag, clothing with pockets, a computer bag, or a small wristlet for formal events). But I don't really care what other people spend their money on.

If you have somehow earned a salary that can support a 250k purse, a 40k diamond, a 500k car etc, then I think you've earned the right to spend your money however you please, because it's your money and not my business. Good for you. Do I have opinions on how I think you should spend that money? Of Course I do. Do you have any obligation to listen to me? Of course you don't. (This doesn't apply to bank robbers, murderers, dictators, etc. But of course, if you belong to any of those groups, I object more to you as a person more than I object specifically to you as a shopper).

ETA: Madam Bijioux, I love that you dressed up your new Birkin in pearls! It's a precious photo.

Is it true the leather is from cows raised on froi grois and Dom Pérignon?

I think I've posted about this book in the past

Bringing Home The Birkin

it is a hilarious read and quite an eye opener about resellers and the lengths they go to
get bags and resell them.

a few months ago I was in a Brahmin handbag store at an outlet. The prices were good
but not cheap by any means. The sales clerk and I started talking and he told about a
woman who drives several hours each month to his store. She buys up a lot of bags and
resells them on ebay. I checked her site and she has her bags marked up in price from the
outlet but still cheaper than retail. I was amazed that the outlet store and headquarters
would allow this. The clerk said they are well aware she does it and don't mind. But I agree
buyer beware on ebay.

I was really hoping this thread would have more pictures. (Thanks, MadamB, for at least posting one!)

I love Birkins. They're impeccably made, and a really classic style. If I could afford one, I'd buy one in a heartbeat!

This is a big game, as well as an incredibly lucrative independent business. Coach is the brand, I would say, that has the largest amount of resellers. On sites like eBay or Bonanza, almost anything you see NTW (new with tag) is from a reseller taking advantage of hot FPD. It's not uncommon to go into a Coach factory store and see women with 15-20 bags, mostly a variation of the same bag. That same woman is going home, lising the bags, and making 20-30% profit while still selling below sticker.

Coach however isn't a fan of this practice. A lot of resellers flew under the radar but when the economy crashed, a lot of out work people took to reselling as a means to supplement income. Coach has decided in turn, they will ban people from shopping at Coach they suspect of abusing their product and name by reselling. Ban letters usually go to people with high returns, multiple purchases of the same bag, overall suspicious behavior. No one knows for sure just how many versions of the ban letter there are penned, most common is the full ban meaning you can never buy from Coach again...the other is the return ban, where you can never return an item again.

It's amazing what goes on out in the world, no?

Ooooh, thank you, thank you!

WTF is wrong with people?!? I just can't wrap my head around spending that kind of money on a purse.... Even if I made that much every day- what's the point?

Madame Bijoux, can you adopt me please? Pretty please? :saint:

MB, is the black, smaller bag known as their saddlebag? I love that one and the classic one too.

IHC,

The book I mentioned, Bringing Home the Birkin, is all about being banned from the stores, making friends with Hermes sales clerks and reselling. (true story) It is amazing. I have to say after what the Brahmin s/a told me, I actually thought about doing the same !! And the mgmt. didn't care is what blew me away.

OK, I give up!

Maybe it's because I'm a man. I can't see how one purse could be worth the price of two Mercedes-Benz SL convertibles.

But I will defer to you. :wavey:

Madam - I LOVE your orange Birkin!! Thank you so much for sharing!

While Hermes isn't in the budget for me, I really like their bags. They're graceful and feminine without being girly. I hope this isn't too cheesy, but to me they read as, "I bought this for myself with money I earned, and I carry it to the office, not just the spa."

Maybe reading too much into a handbag, but anyway. I think they look feminine and powerful and if I am ever in the position to buy myself one, I probably will.
