Hi Everyone!
I was searching for a great 8 mains since 2013 and had stopped the search for the last six months due some unexpected need of funds.
Now that we are about to be back on track, I will like to resume the search. Honestly my budget is not as big as before as a portion was used for emergency but I believe it will grow as the search continues (understand that it take lot of time to find a contender).

I will like to ask the experts out there, apart from GOG and ERD, is there any other vendor or cutter with great 8 main cushion?

My budget now is about $8000, I color and SI eyeclean clarity. I am keeping the colour and clarity low to maximize the size, and also understand the premium for great cut.

Thank you.

GOG and Brilliantly Engaged plus Leon Mege are your best bets. For that budget it will be small.

8 main cushions are so hard to find, I assume you want the antique chunky faceting. Also check out

jewelsbygrace and loveaffairdiamonds...they are experts at finding well cut/faceted antique cuts.

I recommended this stone for performance and size and that chunky faceting...and dollyanjuli had it sent to Erica and she
recommended it and is a great deal (see pg 2 of the first thread I posted above...they ended up buying an OEC):

These ppl on Ebay have a very good reputation and sell a lot of antique stones. This is the largest stone I have seen and under budget.
It is the old more rounded cornered cushion but might be worth taking a look at in person. In a solitaire with fish tail prongs it can square off the corners. 1.83 J VS1 7.64 x 7.3 They also have a good 14 day return policy.

Also I've seen PSrs post about this vendor in the positive as being pretty accurate as far as color and clarity:

I'm loving it now that I've seen the video...very pretty cushion IMO and love the kozibe effect too:

I almost bought this stone- Ilya is a trusted PS vendor and if you go through his website and email him directly, he will give you this for closer to 6500. A screamin deal if it fits what you are looking for! I actually sent this to Grace to check out for me and she agreed that it was beautiful and a bargain!

Good luck...takes great patience and time to find a great 8 main cushion. What type of setting are you wanting? If a halo ...buy an OEC and set it in a cushion halo....more available and will face up larger....just another option cushion lovers might want to consider.

Note the 1.83 faces up like a 2.3c cushion 7.64 x 7.3

cushion size comparison on the hand...interesting:

That stone from Ilya is a steal...cannot believe it hasn't sold!!!

OP was just looking at your old threads, looks like you are looking for modern 8 mains, not necessarily chunky ones? I just saw a few on JA but they were all 14K + :(sad I saw a few 4 mains in that lower price that were nice...

Hi Ladies, thanks so much for the suggestions. Much appreciated it.

Yes, it had been a long search journey. I came across the Cushion listed on eBay but was thinking that it might be a GIA L-M if it's a EGL J? I love the look of it but concern about the colour. I am certainly tempted to call it in if not for the complicated process. I had enquired about the JA stone before but did not proceed as I desire a smaller table and pillowy shape. It's a beautiful stone nonetheless.

My budget used to be more but was greatly reduced due to some emergency use of funds for the family. However, if the right stone comes along and out of budget, I could use the fund set aside for the setting to purchase the stone first. This way, my budget will be in $12000-$13000 zone.

I hope my Cushion will be like this.

I tried contacting GOG... Not much luck :(

What do you think of this? I  these- and with your 'new' budget, you could swing this and just go for a simpler setting? It is over 6mm (6.15x6.13), so, even at just 1.0 carats, it is a great size, super high color, and gorgeous light performance- a star, really.

Oh, and, I think this cushion that was suggested is very pretty:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.70-carat-j-color-vs2-clarity-sku-280712

But the other, (1.51 I) while it has pretty faceting, is not shapley in its table and crown and I would avoid.

Your dream cushion looks like the baby of the 1.7 james allen and the Mark T stone ;)

I love love love the Mark T cushion.. I haven been looking at it since its launch but the inventory is quite limited and premium is high. Hence I was hoping to find a similar one that's not "branded".

Perfect square:

Love the numbers on this one and H color..64% depth and 55% table:

Sorry both over budget.

On the 1.83 J they say in the description that it faces up very white.
"Diamonds are graded for color on their sides and the whole body of the stone is taken into account where color is more apparent. When looking at this diamond from the top, through the table, the stone appears bright white and it will appear even whiter once mounted. Its really a unique characteristic of this particular stone as it faces more white facing up by at least 2 grades. In addition to its white color, the diamond is even better than eye clean as inclusions are very difficult to find even under 10x magnification! We highly recommend a firsthand look at this gorgeous diamond for it to be fully appreciated."

I have seen threads where other PSr's have stated that My Diamond Zone is pretty accurate on their grading descriptions...so I would not rule this stone out at all because it is a J. Holy cow it faces up like a 2.3c cushion! I can't believe it hasn't sold either. When set with double claw prongs and E/W it will look huge. Love cushions set E/W which gives more finger coverage, also it seems to make the stone appear more square. I assume by the picture you posted that you want a squarish cushion.

Did you read Thourella's thread on her 5c J color antique cushon set in platinum halo?

Don't forget to check with Adam at Old World Diamonds.

I had spoken to them on the 1.8ct stone and they won't recommend me to take it after hearing my specifications. The stone will likely be graded as a L/M by GIA. I really appreciate them for being honest.

Maybe I should write to Leon?

I am scorching B2C and Enchanted to see if there's anything available.

Greetings Buldor,

I have access to just about everything out there. Rarely are 8 main cushions cut today and particularly those with excellent optics. Your hunt will yield few if no results.

Bear in mind just because a cushion is 8 main does not guarantee you great optics or even a great crystal and there are cushion modifieds with 4 mains that will kick the pants off of cushion brilliant 8 mains (I have a video on this very subject). To open up your options Buldor, I would suggest opening your parameters beyond strictly 8 main, otherwise you're going to consistently run into brick walls.

All the best,
Rhino

I would call ADam at OWD too

Yes, 8 mains are super rare like Jon stated. Makes me sick they cut all those crappy cushions...what a shame...guess ppl are still buying them though.

If the OP on that other cushion thread doesn't buy that 1.5 J on JA you might want to consider that one too. It came highly recommended by the gemologist as a great performer when compared to the other two stones even though all 3 ASETS looked very good.

Hi Rhino, yes.. I have been searching and do not have much result. I have seen the videos prepared by you when I first started as it's really educational. I understand that a 8 main is rare and does not guarantee performance, I just love the facet pattern. Maybe I should consider opening up to more choices if I still don't find anything in few months time.

Hi Ariel144, I will search for the thread and look out for the 1.5 J. If the OP did not purchase it, I will look into that.
Thank you! :)
