AVR with pear side stones

Hi Everyone!

I love the look of a MRB set with two pear side stones, but prefer the faceting of AVRs and OECs. Do you think this setting would look weird with an OEC? This setting would be for a 1.5-1.7 ct AVR center stone with ~0.4 ctw pear side stones in a size 4 ring.

Unfortunately, searching for pictures online of an AVR/OEC set with pear sides stones yields very little results. I'm unsure if the faceting of an AVR/OEC would look okay with the pear sides. I think antique pear side stones may look better with an AVR/OEC but I'm guessing I would have to have pear side stones re-cut.

This is just my opinion - but I don't think they'd look good together. The pears will have a very splintery look compared to the large on / off facets of the AVR. Totally different styles. Perhaps GOG can take a pic of an AVR w pear sides for you to see for yourself if you like it?

What I'm not sure about re. the first combination you propose is the juxtaposition of big chunky AVR faceting (highlighted with larger stone size) and twinkly pinpoint scintillation (highlighted by smaller sidestone size) - as ecf says they're very, very different aesthetics. I definitely prefer the idea of antique pears, or possibly even rose cut pears

I definitely recommend contacting a couple of antique stone specialists to see what they might have in-stock, or might be able to source. I'm working with Grace at Jewels by Grace on a project right now and she is wonderful Old World Diamonds, Love Affair Diamonds, and Diamonds by Lauren are other excellent options.

Actually... I would take ecf's suggestion first - reach out to GOG and request a photo of the proposed combo, and see what they suggest!

I have an AVR and I love the setting you are speaking of, but I wouldn't do it unless you can get antique pears cut to go with the AVR. I think modern cut stones go together and antique stones go together. I'd ask Jonathan if any of his AV cutters have done pears.

If you can find chunky style faceted pears, then it'll look divine. A modern pear and antique round clashes theoretically.

Thank so much for all the thoughts and advice! I think you all confirmed my same worries, but I appreciate the recommendations for where to potentially source some chunkier pears that would better fit with the center stone.

I am certain you'd have to have them custom cut. Finding antique pears is hard enough when looking for one. But finding a pair would likely mean taking apart an existing antique ring or other piece of jewelry. Let us know what you find out!

An AVR with antique pear side stones sounds devine! I am not sure how an AVR would look with regular pears, but GOG should definitely be able to help you visualize that. Please share if you decide to investigate further! I'd love to see!
