Do you start to think a diamond is "big"?

For myself, 3 cts. This is the post-PS answer. Previous to PS it was .75-1 ct. :o

If I am told the carat size? 2.5 is my benchmark for an internal "Woah, baby." But since most people don't share quite that much info, it depends on finger size, shape of stone, and setting. I'll get the impression of "bigness" if the rock gives the impression of providing, say, 70% finger coverage.

2.3 is when I really start to think a ring is "BIG".

2 carats - at a push. I definitely don't think I could wear anything bigger than that on my finger or I'd feel very uncomfortable and ostentatious.

3 carats. I'd think that anything over 2 cts is "wow" but anything over 3 would be like "omg that is humongous"

5ct in RB's and 6ct in fancy shapes. I could totally rock a 4.5ct RB and a 5-6ct Asscher!

I agree 100%. It totally depends on thd finger size. My friend has a 1.52ct Tiffany solitaire that looks HUMONGOUS on her size 2.5 finger.

When it's bigger than the ones you typically see in that area, I think. My ER is a 1ct EC and it looks big round these parts. It's set in platinum too, which is still fairly unusual here - yellow gold is most commonly seen, then probably white gold. Mine does stand out and in a lot of situations, I have my hands in my pockets.

When I go to NYC, I'm suddenly wearing this little diamond chip....

It's all relative.

Same here! Even on PS we don't see a ton of diamonds over 2.5 carats.

When thinking about rings found here, "big" probably begins at 2.3 ct. for me. In real life, I consider 2ct. to be big. Maybe a little under, actually. I think it also depends on the setting and shape of the stone.

I have small hands, so I don't think I'd want to wear anything larger than 1.5 cttw.

I'm thinking about RB solitaires here.

Prior to PS I'd have said 1ct was "huge". Now I would probably say at least 3+ is huge. Not that I wouldn't wear it if I had it! Id just loupe it all the time.

This is my answer too. When I upgraded from 0.80 to 1.2 that was where my diamond started looking big to me. This recent upgrade just looks huge!

Where I live I *never* see a diamond over 1ct.

For me it's about hand/finger size/ratio.

So on a really small finger or hand, a 1c or 1.5c can look 'big'.

But on my own hand (size 6 finger), I think a 2.5c looks 'big'.

Of course this is post-PS... it's all I remember.

I live in a country where plain gold bands are used as both engagement and wedding ring (on the right hand during the engagement, switching to the left at the wedding) so seeing diamond rings is rather unusual. So, my personal "large" is probably below 1ct. My "PS large" is 2ct.

On PS it has to be anything over 2 carats (round) bigger if its cushion/assher.

Around town here anything 1-1.25 is on the larger size. Anything 1.5+ would definitly be large.

This is all so relative. Before PS, and when my (now) fiance and I first started looking at rings, 1 carat seemed large. Now, I would say that anything over 2 carats seems big to me.

On the other hand, I would say that I almost never see anything over 1.5 carats in my area, and even the vast majority are under 1 carat.

PS and my upgraded diamond have really altered my perception a lot!
