At what age did you lose your virginity?

Why did you omit 19 and 21?

You need an n/a option .

OMG Kenny! Really you want to know?

No, not about you or any individual.

Just poll results of the group.

Good point.
Sorry all you virgins.

I'd start a new poll for you, but PS only allows us 10 poll answers and I would need 80 to cover all possible ages.
Someone at an age not offered would go bananas.

Or just combine some ages . Sorry sorry I know you hate poll critiques. Just an idea sense you omitted a few years anyway . Continue with your probing questionnaire ::)

It would make more sense to have something like "under 12", and "over 21" than to omit 19 and 21 which are more likely ages than 11...

Since PS limits poll answers to 10 I attempt to pick answers so the middle of the bell curve is at the middle of the answers.

It's not easy, and I'm often wrong.
In fact I blew it in this poll, since I now read average age is near 17.
Kenny: Research before forming polls.

Actually I welcome poll critiques.
It lets me explain to all you who don't start polls, (but vote, post in them, and love to read results) how hard it is to write a good poll.

So be sure to do that when you start a poll.

With regular posts PS gives you 45 minutes to edit.
But PS freezes poll answers and the poll question itself the moment it posts.
I could not implement suggestions if I wanted to.
This train has left the station, so to speak.

This policy is best overall because poll answers changing after some people have voted would be really really messed up.

Nobody's going to delete a poll or start a new one based on feedback so suggestions are really not useful.

No problem.

Sorry I was rude.

Ha, I don't even know what age my dh lost his virginity LOL. It will be interesting to see the "average" PS age though I do wonder about the statistical accuracy. And how meaningful it would be in comparison to non PSers.

I have to admit that I'm intrigued by the person who answered "11 or under"...makes me wonder if it was consensual. :?

That would be super-duper personal.

I wonder, Do people consider molestation and rape loosing their virginity? I mean I consider stat rape losing your virginity. If consentual(like 14 and a 16 year old). But I as I'm not someone who was in the situation I don't know how I'd feel. Outside the situation I wouldn't consider MYSELF loosing MY verginity until it was consentual.

I hope I don't sound like someone who doesn't think stat rape is " real rape" I do. But in high school situations consentual sex can still fall into that category.

Dictionary definition ...

Sounds like virginity is a physical thing not a mental one or one with consent or moral qualifications.
That's not harsh or mean, just accurate to the meaning of the word.

If it was a mental thing wouldn't we'd all lose our virginity the first time we masturbated?

All the value judgement stuff related to virginity is a different topic.

Not every word is limited to the dictionary definition. There are social definitions as well. That's why not everyone considers performing oral sex as losing their virginity, though intercourse is described as penetration so......

Not everything is cut and dry

Tell me about it.
People think/believe whateverthehell they want these days.
Every idea is equal.
Nothing is for sure.
The earth's really 6000 years old.
Science is just another thing some people believe in.
Academia has an agenda.
A billion people believe a virgin had a baby.
So much for ANY definition of virginity.

I could go on.

Can't vote as the required number is missing, and it was above 18 and below 21.

DK :))

There's no reason to get hyperbolic. Virginity is a personal thing and to have a slightly different view from one individual to another isn't outlandish. Not at all similar to whether science is real.

What's that old adage? Virginity is in the eye of the beholder? ;))

Virginity is certainly personal, but the word's definition is not.
I don't mind if you want to make up your own definitions and live in your imaginary world where nothing is bad and everything is nice.

I'll bet you can even get others to agree with you.
Reality can be pretty harsh at times.

But if you'd like to have a conversation in English nearly everyone uses the agreed-to meanings from the dictionary.
Maybe some people see that as cold.

No but some people will see it as incorrect.

If person a says they are a virgin but performed oral sex, are they wrong because you consider oral sex intercourse?

If not everyone describes sex the same how can it be that there is only one hard and fast definition for virginity.

If every word was rigid without fluidity there would be no evolution of the human language.

Seriously… For someone he wants others to open their minds to other ideas, you sure shot that one down... I understand that PS won't let you edit after a while, but that was kind of rude, kenny.

As you always say, "people vary," so obviously different people's definitions of what it means to lose his/her virginity would naturally vary. :)
