Asymmetrical 6 prong settings: Am I paranoid?

Hi,

I received my ring from JA yesterday, and am quite satisfied with the stone. However, the prong settings are not symmetrical as shown in the picture below. The problem is, once I noticed this, I can't unsee this anymore! Do you guys think I'm paranoid about this, or I should send it back to get it fixed?

You're totally within the return period to simply call James Allen for a new ring setting if you feel unsatisfied, of course.

In my opinion they appear symmetrical

I would send it back. Not certain if your photo is tilted ever so slightly, but it also appears the upper left prong is set back compared to the others. They can do much better, imho.

It looks off to me, too, but with the photo to the side, I might be wrong. Can you rotate it?

If it is asymmetrical, I'd send it back.

I don't think that the prongs themselves are asymmetrical, but rather the claw tips are asymmetrical. Meaning that the prongs are directly across from each other, but the tips at 1 and 3 o'clock are not straight. If you send it back to them, that should be an easy fix. All they would need to do is touch up the tips to make them straight.

However, this may just be the angle of the photo, as the photo appears slightly tilted. Could you post another photo to confirm what you're seeing?

Thanks for the responses. Yes, the claw tips are what I meant by being asymmetrical, not the prongs themselves. As suggested, I contacted JA, and they are sending me a return label.

I'm posting three more pictures below taken from different angles.

You’re right that you’ll never unsee something that bugs you!

Exactly. Get it fixed while it's still in the return period. Even if it's something small, you would never unsee it. :)

This is the same reason I choose high-clarity diamonds (VS2 and above and completely eye-clean). If I ever saw a small inclusion in a diamond, even if it was only while looking at it with the stone right in front of my face, I would never be able to unsee it.

I agree that the prongs do not look symmetrical. I would have them fix that as I would never unsee that either. Good luck!

This is what I see as well... the placement of the prongs is right, but the claw tips are not facing in the right direction. I don't blame you -- that would make me crazy.

Thanks, all. Good to know that I'm not the only crazy one. :lol-2: When I contacted JA, they apologized about the prongs and sent me a shipping label. I was initially going to do the resizing at a local store to avoid shipping it back and forth, but now that I'm sending it back for the prong fix, I'm also asking them to have it resized at the same time. So I'm not complaining too much about it, as the ring needs to be resized anyway. Hopefully, they can do a better job this time. I know I won't be happy if I need to 'resend' it 2 weeks from now.

I would ask them to send you a photo for approval prior to them shipping it back to you.
