Hello,

My engagement ring was stolen last week. It is insured and will be replaced. My husband and I have decided to get an upgrade, its been 5 years and we have a son now so It feels appropriate.

My previous ring was a round 0.79 ct with a halo, 14k white gold Kirk Kara ring with an engraved band. This time I want to get a oval, no halo around 1.2-1.5 ct

I found one from James Allen (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.20-carat-d-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-9257594) and my husband insisted I run it past here to make sure its a good buy. Specs below. Appreciate any help!

Shape: Oval
Carat: 1.20
Color: D
Clarity: VVS2
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: Very Good
Fluorescence: None
L/W (mm): 8.73x6.05
L/W Ratio: 1.44
Certificate: GIA

I'm sorry to hear your ring got stolen :(

Some people have no respect :((

WRT the stone posted, I'm no expert but I'm not a fan - you see the dark band of facets across the middle when it is head on? That is called 'bow-tie' and should be avoided if possible - but stones without a bow-tie can be hard to find!

I'll have a look at what else is on JA now and throw some suggestions into the ring, if that would be OK :)

I'm assuming DEF, VS1+, ~1.2ct, ~US$7500?

Ok, even if we stretch those criteria to D-H, VS2+, 1.1ct+ and US$8000, there's still only about 100 stones to choose from, none of which are really singing to me personally... (although my taste is not your taste, of course ;) :) )

Do any of these appeal? :)

The Elyque Ovals from Rhino / Jon on here are cut for maximum light performance but due to them needing more weight in the pavilion to work, and taking more time to cut accurately (I think) they are more expensive, but worth a look just in case :)

This was so helpful! I was wondering if there was anything to really look for and hadn't even heard of the bowtie.

Considering that I found (https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.20-carat-e-color-vvs1-clarity-sku-9254089) this one, what are your thoughts on this?

We're willing to go up to 9k for the right stone.

Just confirming you have been advised by your insurance company that they’ll be giving you a cash payment. More often policies offer a replacement ring to the stats of the ring lost/stolen.

May I ask how you insured your ring? Homeowners policy? Separate policy? I’m in the process of buying a diamond which I might want to insure. Thanks

I did't find a ton I love in your budget and desired size. But here is one I like from JA:

OP does it have to be from JA?

Rhino has an Elyque 1.20 F vs2 in budget.

I'm sorry to hear that your ring was stolen! I'm not familiar with ovals but I hope you find one you love!

I have a valuable property policy with USAA. Highly recommend if you have access to USAA.

Do you have a link? I’m interested ofc

The use the search button for Elyque ovals

USAA is for military members and their families only.
