First of all new to the site. I never knew there was so much information on buying a ring. I thought you went to a store and bought what you liked. Well at least I have found this site b/c thus far it has been a tremendous help.
The bottom line is that my girlfriend is a simple but classy girl. Her thought''s on the ring are important (I took her looking about a year ago to get an idea of what she liked). At that time, she wanted an elegant, vintage ring. The salesperson pushed her to some dinky rings, but the idea went over pretty good. Her initial thought on style was a princess or a round brilliant (leaning heavily towards the princess b/c it seemed to better fit the vintage, elegant theme). However, she trusts me to make a solid purchase because she knows that I will spend an enormous amount of time researching this decision (plus I have done well in the past)!
I have been exploring for the last several months in my spare time and I think that I like the Daniel K rings - in my opinion very elegant with a vintage flair. However, I know that there are other things out there. In addition, my initial thought is that she would abosolutely love an Asscher diamond and even more so a Royal Asscher diamond (with a slight possibility existing for a cushion cut). On the other hand, I am having a difficult time processing all of this information regarding the quality of the diamond. I have always thought that I needed to be in the DEF range, higher than VS2, and with a very good to excellent cut. To my demise, there are other things that I have to take into consideration like table size, depth, LW ratios, and many other considerations. I guess I am saying that I have become overwhelmed with the options. Where do you sacrifice the least to pick up the most?
My timeline is sometime this summer and the price range floats into the $10,000 to $13,000 range when including the ring. The surprise element is crucial, so therefore I can not ask her any more questions (no sisters either).
Any help is greatly appreciated. And thanks again for already providing a wealth of knowledge.
