I''m new to the boards and after reading all the posts on beautiful asscher rings, I wanted to get a small asscher diamond to "play" with. It might go on pendant or a ring, not sure yet. It''s a small asscher and I was reluctant to post any specs but here it is. Please be kind to a newbie :)

I really wanted to try the online vendors here but with the size I wanted to get, I''d hate to get scoffed at. If there''s anything I learned on the boards is that don''t buy anything based on papers alone. I get that but ...at this point I can still view it for 30 days and return it. I''ve read posts here and googled the "ideal" proportions for this little square emerald step cut, I''m still at a loss.

I''m taking a chance and hoping that someone here must comment on this this little guy. So, here are the specs.

GIA 16550249
Square Emerald Cut
5.22 x 5.19 x 3.40
Carat Weight; 0.80
Color: J
Clarity: VS1
Polish: Excellent
Symmetry: VG
Fluores: None
Table: 65%
Depth: 65.5%

Visually, I''m not blown away but maybe becaue it''s too small? The windmill effect is not great, not what I expected, is this because of the table % being too large? The cut corners are not pronounced. Would this be good enough for a pendant? Or will someone just say, what the heck is that ugly glass square looking thing...Help? Thanks!

.8 ct asschers that POP are out there is this one doesn''t then keep looking.

Try www.goodoldgold.com I bought a .92 that is awesome. Sounds like this stone isn''t making your heart sing.

ok, here are some pics I just took. It does face up J in the lighting we had at home.

Now that I looked closer, doesn''t look so bad after all. Any comments on the specs?

try setting it on your fingers and taking a picture.
ie put 2 fingers together and place the diamond in the V between them then take a picture from strait above.

From the side does it look like the crown is high or does it look flat?

So far it looks pretty good but the corners and windmills are small but that's pretty typical of whats out there.
If you like larger windmills and I do they are out there too.

Here are more pics, different lighting. I think from the side the crown looks flat.

good patterns, good light return, crown height looks marginal but hard too tell, small corners/windmills.
Clear it was cut for weight by a skilled cutter too keep the weight and make the patterns work.
How does it look for fire in direct lighting? (sunlight or small light sources)
If it dont make your heart sing return it and look for one with larger windmills and a higher crown.
