Hi there,

i have seen 2 diamonds on diamonds-usa.com. could anyone please offer their advise on them if theu look good value? will the vs2 clarity be ok? will a thick girdle affect the look, does that mean its a poor cut? is it better to sacrifice color for clarity?

0.9ct
vvs1
color d
d 69.6
t 53
girdle medium
$5269

1.08ct
vs2
color e
d 66.8
t 54
girdle thick
$4886

any help would be much apprechiated.

martin

The experts will chime in shortly, and they will want pictures - can you get pics of these?

Table seems very small. This may result in the diamond having a lot less spread, and looking smaller. Is there any other info you have, such the dimensions? What about the crown height?

numbers sound yummy.
need pictures and crown height and l/w ratio, but id bet the crown height is fine with that table size.
Still need pictures and l/w, the numbers tell you less than 20% of what you need to know.

thick is the most common girdle for asschers and med as low as id go in most cases.

thanks for your replies.

i have requested pics and crown high so will see what they come back with.

the 0.9ct stone has measurements of 5.19 5.41 3.61. Is it the 5.19/5.41 = 0.95?

the 1.08 ct stone is 5.6 5.61 3.74 = 0.99?

Works the other way larger/smaller so it is always over 1.
so 1.04 which is on the high end of ok and 1.00 which is as good as it gets.

I think the second one is a better value get pictures!
If diamonds-usa.com cant supply pictures see if one of the PS vendors can get the stone in for pictures.
GOG will call it in for pictures at no charge too you.
WF will call it in for a small fee that if you buy it the fee is included in the price.
Both will price match if at all possible.

From the numbers you posted (which are insufficient to make the decision on) I would choose the second one. Much more spread.

Hi, i got sent a pic. Was having difficulty posting pic, kept erroring so please follow link. There are afew marks on diamond, would these be visable to naked eye? Is it better to give this one a miss?

http://by116w.bay116.mail.live.com/mail/ReadMessageLight.aspx?Action=ScanAttachment&AllowUnsafeContentOverride=False&AttachmentIndex=0&AttachmentDepth=0&FolderID=00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000001&InboxSortAscending=False&InboxSortBy=Date&IsMessageSafe=True&MessageCodePage=1255&ReadMessageId=e28fc662-62a7-4ca6-9bf9-42a9a325a774&n=1774484008

The crown heigt is 15.6%?

All opinions would be much appreciated.

The shop says its 100% clear to naked eye as its VS2.

Thanks for that, hopefully this will work. Please advise if u want a bigger pic?

I kinda like a bit larger corner breaks on my Asschers...., and a wider windmill effect..., but thats just my personal preference...

Do that effect the sparkle of the diamond or is that purely for look?

I think my girlfriend would like the shape, and all meassurements seem in like with recomendations. One of my concerns were the black spots on the diamond but guess this is magnified 100''s of times so should be invisible?

me too but the reality of the market is they aren''t out there so I settle for wide enough too look good.

ask your vendor to eyeball it but id bet they arent visible.
They arent the kind of vs inclusions that sometimes can be seen.

Mostly the appearance/look...
Maybe Strmrdr can post a picture sample from his collection so you could visualize the difference...

Iv seen pictures of well over 1500 real world asschers that people have bought or had called in and around 5 of them had what I would call wide corners.
I am aware that is someone wanted to spend the money on a custom cut they could get one from you with wide corners.
But will you do one e/vs2 that sells for for under 5k retail at 5.6mm?

Thanks very much for your help and expertise its been very helpful. I think i will go ahead with this diamond!

Why that's the average pricing in the regular ones? If yes..., wont people pay a "small" premium for the real McCoy?

BTW..., wanna open up an Asscher Shop?

Even RA isnt doing wide corners anymore if someone could do then that way under RA pricing I think they would sell well.
If I had a couple million $$ too stock one id open one in a minute hehehehehehe

edit: also $5k is the premium price allready for a well cut ones online the crappers are more like $4300. RA would likely be around $6500, Id want too target 6k tops to move more stones.

Martin1978 sorry for the threadjack here.

DiaGem im going to do some designing this weekend and see how much extra weight it would take too cut them the way we like em for the same spread.
Then we can see if you can do some yeild estimating and see where it goes.
I think several people would be interested in it other than just us :}
You game?

Allways...

What TD will be acceptable?

a 5.6x5.6 at around 70''s td will bring you to the one carat level!
BTW..., I know cutters who cut at least 60% of their production in this fashion! And they cut a bunch!
27.gif

I am just surprised to hear that you can''t find them more!

hmmm well most of the asschers that reach PS are comming from 3 places.
DK, one other from NY, and a Russian cutter.
Tell them they need to get on the list!
Or better yet tell em they need to hire me and I will move em hehehehe

Im going too shoot for td around 70.. 69ish... I have no problem over 70 but marketing them by mm vs weight is an uphill battle not too mention pricing them that way.

Tell them they need to get on the list! or too contact Jon at GOG.
He might be interested in slapping his brand on them or co-branding them if he can get a steady supply.
Or better yet tell em they need to hire me and I will move em hehehehe
I imagine DK and J&Co get the cream first hand from D.

Russian cutter cut them nicely..., I wonder why the real McCoy''s dont get to PS vendors...
33.gif

NY..., I have no idea of someone cutting them in the US systematically!

The Cutters I am talking about cant get enough to meet their demand..., but I can always slip out the good ones...
