Do you sometimes know what’s going to happen before it does? Do you ever experience foresight?


Occasionally I do. It’s eerie. But I believe it’s real for some of us.
Luckily it doesn’t happen often because it’s a huge weight to bear


Would you want to have that proverbial crystal ball? Do you want to know the future?

Right now I have (for lack of a better word) a vision. An unpleasant vision I won’t share but it’s worrisome and I hope I’m wrong this time
Since I can’t change the future I don’t want to know. If I could change it then yes I’d want to know

How about you? Are you ever prescient?

I’ve had a few strange moments I don’t quite understand. They don’t happen every time something comes up, but when they do, they leave me wondering.

It started in my twenties when I worked in a little hardware store in rural Virginia—think Mayberry, complete with old-time storytellers. I worked with three older gentlemen who treated me like family. They told me wild stories about mountain feuds, people riding horses into movie theaters and shooting at the screen—who knows if they were true, but I loved every second of it. I was totally charmed by them.

Years after I’d left that job and lost touch, I suddenly found myself thinking about one of them non-stop. I remembered how he used to eat yogurt every day for lunch, how he told his stories… it was so persistent that I decided to stop by the store. When I asked about him, the clerk told me he was in the hospital with cancer and dying. I was pretty rattled and went home shaken.

A couple of years later, the same thing happened with another of those “adopted grandpas.” Again, I had this sudden wave of nostalgia and stopped by the store—only to learn he too was in the hospital in his final days.

And then, it happened a third time. I went in again after feeling that same tug, and sure enough, the last of the three was in the hospital—not dying, thankfully, but still very ill.

I hadn’t been in that store in between those visits, not once. But when those strong feelings hit, I went—and every single time, they were in the hospital.

It’s not just them.

One time, seconds before my son called me about hitting a pole with his car and having a medical episode, I stood up at home and suddenly tumbled down the hallway—completely out of nowhere, like my body had been knocked off balance.

When my dad was in the hospital, I came home one day, put my hand on the doorknob, and was suddenly hit with this gut-wrenching wave of dread. I walked in and saw the answering machine blinking. It was a message from my mom with bad news.

But the funniest (and strangest) moment of all happened with my mom’s old cat. We were talking one day about how that cat had never caught a mouse—not once in its lazy little life. We started reminiscing about all the mousers we’d had before. And just then, the cat—who had never so much as swatted at a bug—walked into the room with a mouse in its mouth, jumped up on the bed, and let it go.

How could that have been random?

Oh, and the prescient emails, phone calls and so on are really common. So much so that my husband and I just laugh and chalk it up to my "witchy ways".
 
Sometimes I think I am, but I'm also an INFJ and have childhood trauma so paying attention, tuning in, seeing patterns and preparing for the worst is how I'm wired. I see a lot that doesn't actually happen but I see a lot that does.
 
Maybe a wee bit. My oldest daughter is much more open to it. One year she went on a "ghost" tour and there was a paranormal scientist there. He told her all his equipment went off like rockets when she walked by him. He hadn't caught anything else the whole evening. I'm not a skeptic about all of this, but OTOH I don't want it to be part of my daily life at all.

i dont pick up on most vibes
although once, a long while ago i mad a bad caerrer choice and i just new i was going to loose my job
i usually just try my best to hope for the best and just blunder through what ever life throws at me

my mum in law was from Birmingham UK
she always used to buy something from the gypsies when they came by

her and her sister once went to get their fortunes read by gypsy and the gypsy lady walked out and would not do it for her saying that she was more powerful than her
Blossom (that's what the family called their mum) never said anything spooky when i was around but maybe because she knew i was not open to it ?

Decades ago,when I was about 15, on holidays at my Aunties house she took me over to her friends house for a visit as it was hot and they had a pool. I was swimming in the pool and Aunt and her friend went back inside for coffee.
I was up at the deep end and I got that feeling refered to as “someone walking across your grave” it’s like an overwhelming sense of something bad. I turned around and looked, I was all alone, no one was there. Couldn’t shake the foreboding feeling so I started to swim back to the shallow end. Then I realised a small child was lying on the bottom of the pool near the steps.
I didn’t even know the lady whose house it was had a toddler, the toddler had been upstairs asleep when we arrived. It appeared that when my Aunt and the lady left the pool area the gate didn’t lock. The toddler, unbeknownst to them had woken up, come downstairs, come outside to the pool area and had walked down the pool steps and gone under the water without as much as a murmur or a splash.
I remember screaming like a banshee, picking her up, carrying her out of the water and then holding her upside down ( first response to “empty the water out”) before her mother arrived to start CPR while my Aunt called an ambulance.
Thankfully the toddler was ok but it was a huge shock for everyone. Can’t explain how I got the feeling something was wrong but luckily I did.

Yep, but can't talk about it much, it's too personal and unbelievable anyway.
For me it's dreams, and rarely gut feeling (when driving), all I can say.
 
this is going to be one of those threads that will keep me awake at night and not in a good way


who else have those awful dreams you want to go to the loo but you cant find privacy and you wake up absolutly bursting to go :lol-2:

Yes. And I can tell when people are going to die within a 72 hr. period. That little useless talent started when I was 5 yrs. old.

@kenny I'm intrigued by quantum entanglement and wave-particle duality as a function of what we call paranormal but which may merely be normal. Too complex to go into here. "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
 
I don't know that it's forsight as it's not really something happening but a place or instance I have seen in my mind or dreampt about. Then years later, I am there, there it is and I have never been there before. Sometimes, it's even a smell.

Quantum science being over the heads of most today, doesn't make it not true.
It's certainly too far over my pea-brain to wrap my head around it.
But like the masses many centuries ago, I ain't very smart when it comes to revolutionary cutting edge science.

They also balked at the earth rotating around the sun.
Give it time; Truth will prevail.

I've had a number of weird occurrences dating back to my teens-- things I knew, that I had no way of knowing.
I think we really don't understand a whole lot about how the universe works.

I occasionally have ‘feelings’ when something pops in to my head, and when I check it out, I discover why I’ve had the feeling.

Nothing bad or ominous. We booked a cruise this week, got a killer deal, the only draw back was that it was on a guaranteed cabin basis, something we would never normally do. Anyway, we were told that the cabin probably wouldn’t be assigned until very close to sailing, or even as late as boarding. This morning, I had a feeling, so I logged in to my account, and we’ve been assigned our cabin - the exact cabin we’d have chosen!

its almost June, so pretty much winter here
i had a nana nap this afternoon
i was dreaming i was so cold i was huddled around a birthday candle for warmth
i woke up freezing cold
there was no cup cake but i made chillie for dinner

Sort of. I have had premonitions before, and my mom gets them too, but not often and rarely over anything major. (Biggest one was a narrowly avoided shooting that would’ve kept me 2 hours late in class)
What I am good at though, is people. I have had some people be all flavors of extremely nasty to me throughout my short life, and as a result I generally know when someone is going to be a problem. So far, I have never been wrong in my assessment of someone being a drama stirrer, unstable, or just generally mean, no matter how they actually come off. It’s gotten to the point where I have become the official “vibe checker” at my work, and anyone who is working with us meets me at some point because I sniffed out three MAJOR problem people months before anything happened, or anyone else noticed.
I also have good medical instinct, but that was inherited from my mother.
