OK, so I just posted about buying my wedding dress (yay!, see post here) and now it''s on to the bridesmaid dress decision. I found a dress that I like (Bill Levkoff style number 904 on the web site, I can''t figure out how to post it), but I''m having trouble deciding on a color. Pale pink will be my main wedding color but the pale pink that this dress comes in is a little too bubble-gummy for me, and I''m concerned that my pink bouquets would clash with it or just be too much pink. I like the pale green color in person, but I wanted to stay away from a pink and green color scheme because several of my friends have done those colors. I actually think the champagne color would be really pretty and set off the pink flowers well.

So here''s my actual question -- Would you be opposed to wearing a champagne colored dress? Do you think champagne looks good with various skin tones and hair colors?

I asked my bridesmaids what they think and they told me it''s my wedding and they''ll wear whatever I choose (aww, great girls) but I want them to look pretty and feel comfortable, too. So many people seem to be against wearing champagne but I like it on myself even though I''m pale.

I like the champagne color, and I can wear it sometimes, but a few times that I''ve tried on things, it matched my skin tone too much and at first glance looked like I was naked! (This wasn''t a bridesmaid dress though!!!) I would suggest having them try it on if at all possible, but if it doesn''t blend in too much, I think it would be a lovely color!

I was worried about the same thing. My dress was technically called "gold". But it was champagne. On my skin I liked it better, but I was worried because my colors were yellow and grey. I thought the champagne would look wierd maybe. I don''t think it did.
Another thing that people don''t think about is that the deeper the shade of white, the better your dress is going to photograph. White tends to "blow out" and sometimes you can miss detail. If you have texture and an "offer" white, the photographs (especially the B&W ones) are going to look beautiful.

Here is a link to my post with some photos.
I have a slideshow linked there too if you want to see more images.

I love your dress by the way.

i love that color on gowns, it looks good on my skin tone, but since your BM''s probably all have different skin tones you should have them try it on and see if you think they look good in it. that''ll probably be the easiest solution.

or photo shop them into it

I love champagne. My prom dress was that color.

Really, if that''s the color that seems to work best, based on what you like and all, go with it. Especially since your bridesmaids are willing to go with whatever you pick.

Thanks everyone for your responses! I may ask my bridesmaids if they want to go try on a sample in champagne to see what they think, but I bet they''d rather avoid the trip and just go with what I choose. I''ve just been so lucky with my friends'' bridesmaids dress choices -- they''ve all been so pretty so I don''t want to be the one that picks something that no one actually likes!

Vote4Pedro -- I loved your wedding dress! I went through your whole slideshow yesterday. :)

I think the champagne would look great w/ the pink! It's neutral, so I would think it would look good on "most" skin tones.

I chose ivory for my BMs and while they didn't LOVE the idea at first, they all came around

And they really did look FANTASTIC the day of the wedding.....

here's a pic of my BMs and me

I've posted this before, but can't resist another opportunity! Love this pic!

Thanks for the encouragement, cdt1101! I remember looking at your wedding pics and totally loving your bridesmaid dresses in ivory. That's good to know that your bridesmaids went from skeptical to liking them in the end. They really were beautiful against your colorful flowers.
ETA: Haha, I guess it was your own flowers that were so colorful but the ivory really sets off the green in the bmaid bouquets.

thanks! Honestly, my BMs were like yours and told me I could pick whatever. The only one who really had a comment on color was my SIL (the blond next to me), but she''s known to be VERY opinionated, so I didn''t take it personally. Besides she''s been w/ my brother since they were 15! So we''re comfortable enough w/ each that I just told her to shut it

I''d have them try it on, just to make sure no one looks like they''re nekkid.

It''s a fun color, but might not work on everyone. Other than that I say go for it!

cdt, you may have already said in your wedding pics thread, but who is the maker of your bmaid dresses? I really like them and plan to check out a similar style by Jim Hjelm but haven''t seen them in person yet.

they are jim hjelm. In my wedding thread i posted the style numbers (there's a short and long version of this dress).

Let me know if you can't find my thread.

Also, as far as looking naked, I think that sometimes has to do w/ the material. IMHO, I think satin tends to look more 'skin' like, I think you'd be safer w/ chiffon (that's the material of my BM dresses). I don't know, I just think satin in light colors doesn't alway work as well.

good luck! Can't wait to see what you decide!

ETA - you can kind of see what I'm talking about in my pic. My dress was Duchess Satin, and in an antique color (kind of champagnish). I think the BMs dresses POP more off their skin tone than my dress did. Although, I am also the fairest skintone of the 5 of us, but still. Maybe it's the strapless thing too....ok, now i'm rambling! sorry

I''m really pale with reddish brown hair and green eyes and I love champagne on me. I definitely suggest a trip to the dress store to just hold the color against each of their skin to judge the coloring.

I think champagne would be great! It seems to look good on just about everyone.

We had champagne for my cousin''s wedding and we and everyone else around us LOVED them. I''ll try and post a picture if I can find one.

I almost went with this color too. I think it looks gorgeous, and as far as the skin color, its going to be next to impossible to find a color that looks fab on everyone....

Here they are! ETA: I believe these are Bill Levkoff but the wedding was in 2005

Wow, thanks everyone, your comments are so helpful! I hear what you're saying about the naked thing -- we don't want that! I have a bridesmaid visiting in a few weeks so maybe I can take her to try on dresses then. My six bridesmaids are literally ALL over the country so it would be difficult to get them together to try on dresses and see what they look like in person.

cdt, I haven't checked your thread yet but I think your bmaid dresses are the ones I've been meaning to track down and see in person. I believe it comes it a pale, pale pink chiffon and I think that fabric would work better in pink.

Blair, thanks for posting that pic! That's really helpful b/c the champagne dress I'm considering would be from Bill Levkoff. I'm sure their shade of champagne hasn't changed much since 2005, right?

I think a champagne color would be LOVELY! I would love to wear it...after now having been in 13 weddings, I''ll have to put the bug in my friend''s ear about that for her wedding next year! I think she''s stuck on coral and cranberry or coral and brown, though, so I think I may be out of luck!

cdt...your BM gowns are gorgeous! Lucky girls!

You should buy the color you love, that looks great on you. I''m all for dresses in colors other than stark white or ivory. Why not? Which ''Irish'' lass is it here on PS who purchased a lovely green dress? It''s absolutely perfect -- for her.

Harleigh, 13 weddings?! You''re a good friend.

...and to a lot of people, apparently!

I don''t mind the color at all. Im am pretty fair skinned with dark hair (if that helps).

Oh another thing-although I am QUITE tan in that photo-I am PASTIER THAN PASTY normally and the color looked FAB on me. The groom''s sister was also fair-skinned and she looked good in the color as well.

Hi Blair138 -- I did notice the girls in the photo were really tan. My bmaids are all pretty pale (that''s what an office job will do to you! but it''s also better for your skin so that''s ok.) so it''s good to know the dress looked good on pale people, too. Pale people unite!

LOL...I never thought of it that way...and I still have at least 2 or 3 more to go! I''m no spring chicken, so I''ve racked up a lot of friends over the years, I guess (and introduced a lot of couples who feel the person who introduces them MUST be in the wedding!) I would love to tell them I''m more than happy to be a guest, but sometimes it''s just not that easy! I''ve been a Maid of Honor twice, and now that I''m married, I get to be a "Matron" of Honor for my BFF one day soon, too, so I''ve run the gamut of bridal party attendant duties, that''s for sure. I feel like I am living that "27 Dresses" movie, which I bought for my BFF to remind her of what NOT to choose for me to wear!
