Well, I think I get more and more confused every day. I''m going through a broker who''s a friend of a friend.. (or is he?) Both pieces rate 2B on gemappraisors.com (which I think is ok, not good, not bad.. Here''s the 2 pieces.. Please tell me what you think..

Princess Princess
carat 1.02 1.01
color E G
Clarity VS1 SI1
Table 70% 74%
Girdle med Thn - Thk
Depth 70.6% 72.9%
Crown 14% 8-9%
symmetry good good
polish vg vg
fluorescence none none
measurements 6.32*5.41*3.82 5.73*5.46*3.98

I also asked him to find a diamond slightly less than a carat w/ better specs.. Your knowledge and information will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
JB

The L:W ratio and the crown height % of #1 exceed the standards for a Princess Cut according to the Cut Charts.

You might give the White Flash Expert Selection a look.

1.03, G, VS2 Price Scope price is $4070.75

1.02, G, VS1 Price Scope price is $4175.25
http://www.whiteflash.com/princess/Princess-cut-diamond-548858.htm#

These diamonds are on hand with all the information available. WF has several others in the 1 carat size range for your consideration.

Dirt Cheap Diamonds has some Signature Series Princess Cuts in the 1 carat range available as well. Here are a couple.

1.00, E, VS1, $5113

1.00, E, VVS2, $5174
http://www.dirtcheapdiamonds.com/diamond_detail.cfm?did=6874693

Again, these diamonds are on hand, with all the information available.

You might also take a look at the www.goodoldgold.com inventory and see what fits your budget.

The Cut Charts are guidelines to follow, but Princess Cuts really need to be seen in person. One could be a 1A Ideal Cut and be a dog of a performer. Another could be a 2B Cut and be a sparkling performer.

Thank you,
I would rather purchase a more square princess cut. I'll check out the selections you chose..

Thanks for the input.

Although I am in no way an expert, I would also pass on the two stones you selected. From my research, you really don't want to have a stone with a L/W ratio greater than 1:1.05 if you want it to look square when it's set. As for the crown, Dave has said that he is changing the cut charts for princess cut diamonds (www.gemappraisers.com) to 10%-15% for a 1A cut, so you should be looking for a high crown. Also, one thing I've learned is it's better to have a girdle that is consistent than a girdle with a lot of variance (I hadn't understood this concept when I first looked on the cut charts). When you have a girdle that is medium vs. one that is thin-medium it is my understanding that the angles will be more uniform (but you'll want to ask the experts about this). Other than that, the best advice I can give is to keep an open mind about the different specs of the diamond you seek. Go to some local jewelers if you haven't already, and ask to see diamonds that vary in color, clarity, etc. Although I had originally thought I wanted a diamond with a color from D-F and clarity no lower than VS2, when I saw the diamonds in person I couldn't tell the difference between an H and an F or a VS2 and eye-clean SI1 when they were face up and not magnified! As a result, my B/F and I have now been able to expand our search from the 2 ct range to the 3 ct range! It really just depends on what you're looking for (a diamond that is top quality or one that's a little larger and good quality). As several people on this site have reminded me, you really just need to find the diamond that speaks to you
