Love a beautiful solitaire on women of all ages.

I think a 6 prong solitaire with pave shank is the best look, especially with a diamond the size like yours.

Please never ask my wife this question!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have given her three rings over the years, once because her horse ate one of the stones from her original ring and another because I felt like it. She wears both of the last two rings on various days, depending on her mood for the day and how fancy she wants to look. (We turned the remaining eight stones from the original ring into a delightful pair of earrings.)

The one she wears most often is her 22kt yellow gold bezel solitaire.

She turns older than dirt next month, and trust me, she would NOT be amused.

Having been married for more than 40 years now, I know better than to not amuse her.

Just sayin...

Wink, who turned older than dirt some time ago

Younger women with children might choose the solitaire for durability to stand up to daily wear in a child-rearing household. No pave' stones to fall or to scratch a child. Less fussy ring to repolish. Solid construction that stands up to harder use. Less costly setting to repair or replace if it gets damaged. It's more practical for their lifestyle, in other words. Older women may not have to be as concerned about those issues. Or they may wear their old solitaire at home and wear the fancy ring out of the home, wherever you saw them.

Another oddity that I have run across, and it's all been younger women who have had their diamond e-rings anywhere from a short time to 1-3 years, is they don't often wear the e-ring. I think that's kind of nuts, but they keep it locked up someplace and only wear it occasionally. All of those women like that, that I know anyhow, have a diamond set in a basic solitaire mounting. I presume that's either because they are not that into jewelry and don't care, or they or their beau couldn't see spending big money on the mounting for a ring that's seldom worn.

Wow! Now that is a shame!

I have been married for three years now, am in my mid-30s and I often just wear my eternity band and leave my solitaire at home. Two of my three children are very small and I have scratched them more times than I care to think about with the prongs on my e-ring. It's not that I'm not that into jewelry or that my husband didn't want to buy a more expensive mounting. My solitaire was always meant to be temporary while I found a setting that I really loved, but I just haven't committed to anything. When I was married the first time, I had an .54ct F VS1 OMC in a setting with baguettes and always was wistful that I didn't chose a solitaire - it seemed so classic and timeless.

My rings are lovely - a 1.12 E VS2 vintage cushion from GOG and a shared prong eternity band from BGD. My biggest problem now in choosing a setting is that I am in looooove :naughty: with my shared prong band, but it's hungry for engagement rings. It's eaten through my solitaire pretty significantly (not in a place where the diamond is loose, thankfully) and all of the settings I like would be at risk of damage from my wedding band.

So, my solitaire it is for now. Maybe one day I'll decide on a reset.

I saw a woman today in her 80's wearing a 3+ carat diamond solitaire with 3 eternity bands. It was stunning!

That's the grandma I aspire to be!!

Cheapo solitaire??

Tuesday night my girlfriend and I were at the masked ball at the SF Symphony and she amused herself looking at rings. Her comment was that the most elegantly dressed women had solitaire rings or halos.

Anyway, it also seemed that the women dressed more costume-y had more gaudy rings.

Your mileage may vary......

My 90 year old Mother proudly wore, and immensely enjoyed, her solitaires.
I aspire to be an elegantly bejeweled elder!

so most importantly...

NOW is the time to start that collection! :D

Well of course - if you like simple and elegant, you will probably have a simple and elegant ring. If you like to go all out, you will have a ring that reflects that. My ring is blingy and colorful, which suits my colorful and sometimes outrageous wardrobe. A diamond solitaire, while pretty, would just be kind of incongruous with my personal style.
