Are ideal scopes dated?

Good Evening y'all! I came across a round diamond that I really like. The picture is nice. The HCA score is below two. And best of all, I love the spread and price. So, I asked the seller for an ideal scope. I do not know how to proceed with the response that I was given. Here's an excerpt, "Pricescope is a great website, and I’m not dissing it, but Ideal Scope images are dated, and GIA does not stand behind them anyway. Sometimes those images and theories are too much! We come from a GIA stand point in this office, which is the only stand point that has authority on diamond grading. If GIA says it’s full of fire, with a very good cut, then that’s what it is..." The only time I mentioned Pricescope was when i asked if they would honor the price given through Pricescope's search engine. I am not going to say which vendor I was working with because this may not be representative of the company. What do y'all think of this? It sort of turned me off. But I am not an expert to say that the response is incorrect. Please help.

What you have here is a seller that is trying to make a sale.

The seller knows that stone is going to be a dud if you get an idealscope. Doesn't want to get you one for that reason.

And AGS is the performance standard. Not GIA.

Thanks! I was worried that the seller only wanted to make a sell. That response really rubbed me the wrong way. I do not understand why Pricescope was even mentioned.

Bayou,

I think for the PS community in general this is great news. The vendor recognized the impact the 'Cut is King' philosophy of many on this forum is having on the market. He is factually correct in terms of GIA being a widely recognized authority on diamond grading.

My advice, if you adhere to the philosophy on those in this forum, is to purchase diamonds that show great light performance. That requires an ASET (preferable) or an Idealscope image as indicators for an 'online' diamond.

You are absolutely right! I hope that Pricescope continues to be influential to diamond buyers. And yes, I definitely want a well performing diamond. I don't know if the seller is untrustworthy or simply misinformed. Either way, I do not think I am going to proceed with them. It kind of ruined their credibility.

Idealscopes are about as 'dated' as IQ points and money.

 I agree, Kenny!

Yep, no sale without an idealscope image. I didn't like that he seemed to think "very good"cut was adequate, either.
