Hello. My boyfriend and I are ring shopping. I have settled on an emerald cut stone. I am in the process of searching out ring settings. I really like a very elaborate pave setting that has a lot of sparkle but I am afraid it may be too much for the classic, clean cut of the emerald and make the center stone appear glassy. Any input? How much is too much for an emerald setting? Stone size will be 1.5-1.8ct

I think a pave band could look lovely with an emerald cut. Do you have pictures of settings that you like?

I think the contrast of the sparkly pave setting and the elegant ones of the emerald cut would be divine!!!

I agree that setting would look lovely with an emerald cut diamond. Definitely browse through the EC and asschers thread - you'll get lots of great ideas from that.

I think you can do as simple or "fussy" a setting as you like with an emerald cut. Whether or not you can carry it off depends on your personal confidence.

Personal favorites in the "pave" catagory.

The KEY to each of these is VERY FINE pave... so the proportionality results in the setting highlighting the center stone instead of overpowering it.

Here's one of the loveliest halos (and the center stone is gorgeous as well).

Followed by a lovely split shank (last pic)

This one combines the two... it has a halo and split shanks (this one is a bit too much for me, personally, but it is well done for itself)

If you want something Deco, I'd consider mixing a halo with some step cuts like this:

I LOVE the first one you posted, Gypsy...the 2.39ct emerald. That setting is amazing!

I know, right! It's like the perfect halo. The proportions are perfect -- it's a very thin halo-- and I love the knife edge shank.

Here is my e-ring with a 2.5 carat emerald cut. I really love the contrast between the simplicity of the center stone against the brilliance of the micropave.

I have a halo around my asscher (I have a plain shank though, no pave) and I agree the contrast, when done well, like your ring is lovely.

thanks for these. the setting i like has alot more detail and more "bling". so maybe it is too much. the jeweler wouldn't let me take a pic and i am a total amateur at describing diamonds and jewelry.

Can you post something similar from another vendor?
