Apparently B&Ms DO negotiate price

Just for giggles I went to my local Whitehall Jewelers this afternoon. I asked to see a pair of 3/4ct diamond studs. The SA got them out and I looked at them and asked how much they were. She said $599. I then gave the frownie face you were talking about and she whipped out the calculator and said I could make these babies mine for only $479. I then asked her about the color and clarity. They were D I2/I3. She then tried to tell me how good of a deal I was getting because D is colorless.

This had me thinking... why on earth would you have a D diamond with I2/I3 clarity? Can you even give an accurate color grade in a .30-.40 that is so included?
