I was going to have the head dipped/plated in yellow gold, but I can’t find a goldsmith that will do it for me. They all say: oh it’s so temporary, what a waste of money, and it’ll look like crap before you know it.

I’m bad at picturing things and custom work scares me. Anyone got some spare time and some skills? I have some pics you could play around with :)

And I’d send some major gratitude and good karma your way!!

Photoshop won’t help. The metal will effect the stone, photoshopping yellow next to it will not.
Still I support you.
Maybe put it in a cheap stuller soli for a while until you can afford a reset? Keep the mount for the stones later? Might be cheaper than replacing the head

Oh that's a cool idea I hadn't considered! That way I could still put it back in the original setting if I was like "omg I hate it". Any stuller mounts you have in mind...? Honestly I'm pathetically bad at picturing and envisioning things!!

I seriously think that if you put it in gold the color will be affected very similar to how mine was, the color is very rich right now. I also like the idea of a gold solitaire

I actually like it the way it is - such a soft yellow.

Do you want to highlight the yellow, diminish it, or attempt to match it?

All three are possible, using different alloys and different karats of YG and WG.

I actually love the ring as it is! The light, lemony color is just perfect.

When you have a chance, and if you don’t mind- could you post some more pics of your beauty? I’m particularly interested in seeing more pics of the cup.

You know, I don’t hate it! I like it so much the way it is. But part of me is just so damn curious: could it look EVEN BETTER??

If I made any changes, it would definitely be to highlight the yellow. Make that light yellow as rich as possible! What would you suggest?

I don’t disagree! It’s very very nice as is. What is it about human nature that we so often mess with perfection, while seeking MORE and BETTER? But what can I say? I’m human.

Anything specific you want to see or just everything?

If I was being demanding :mrgreen2:-
Pics of your ring in different lighting, pics that show the cup (with the two holes), and any other glamour shots you’d like to include !

And if I were just to be grateful instead of bossy, I’ll take ANYTHING

Is your diamond yellow with a brown secondary color? I am looking at one of this color and wonder what to expect in various lighting? TIA

I guess what I’m trying to say is that I am completely undecided, lol. Which brings me back to wanting the gold plating as a temporary and exploratory measure! Oh well.

Fancy light Brownish yellow. Sometimes it looks pale yellow. Other times more yellow. Rarely browny. I’ll try and take some pics in diff lighting and post tomorrow :)

Keep in mind that Marquise show colour differently than other shapes eh.

This is really just a clever ruse to get you to post more pics of your ring :Up_to_something:

Haha jk but seriously - I do love it so much and can’t wait to see more pics!!! If you could do it again, is there anything you would’ve changed about the setting? I think it’s perfection but I thought I’d ask anyways :)

You can see how different it looks in different lighting!

Yes! I would go ahead and make it a 5 stone ring, have it set a little higher because my eternity band is eating the gold a bit, I would leave the cup a high polish (I wanted a satin finish) because the bench didn’t do a very good job with this and have the band thinner (it is very thick which also makes it heavy and I also have short fingers so I want more space).

I’m slightly upset about the eternity band because he made both rings at the same time and didn’t make sure they sit properly together. It just seems like an oversight that should have been avoided by a professional designer, with this being my first custom ring that part should have been pointed out. But in a few years I will have all this corrected.

You have such nice hands to showcase that lovely marquise!

I am going to disagree with your jeweler. It is not that expensive to gold plate the head. Yes, it will start coming off soon, but it will tell you whether or not you like the diamond better with the yellow gold than the white gold. It will be a few hundred dollars cheaper than a "cheap" Stuller ring for sure.

If you decide you do not like it, it is a simple thing for the jeweler to reverse the charge and float the plating right back off of the ring.

Wink

I am also curious, do you want to play up the yellow or the brown element? Rose gold could be a nice option as well

I think the problem is (which I found) no jeweler will gold plate that ring!
I think she’s saying it’s cheaper than having the head removed and replaced.

Thank you for sharing all of that! Live and learn, eh? For what it’s worth, I still love love love your set :)
And I think some of these minor changes desired can only be discovered through wearing and enjoying. I really appreciate you sharing the info!!

Oh you are so nice :)
I’ll take a compliment any time I can! As a new mom, I feel so disheveled most of the time...

(My baby is 14 months old and I’m still calling myself a new mom, haha. How old is your baby, KK?)

I agree!!! In fact, I was able to sweet-talk the jeweller in person :) She agreed to it. Yay! I think she was just afraid I would consider the plating permanent and then be disappointed.

I’ll have it done once I get the ring insured, and then I will post ALL THE PICS.

I have definitely considered rose gold! I like rose gold on my skin, and the stone is a yellow brownish yellow... but I think rose gold would play up the brown, and I would like to play up the yellow.

It is getting plated!? Thank god cant wait to see

YESSS!!! Goldsmith is on holiday and I need to get insurance... but he’s back mid-October. Stay tuned!!

This Saturday she will be 11 weeks old, so I know all about that disheveled appearance. A shower is like the highlight of my WEEK :lol-2:
