I was looking at their stuff and his prices seem reasonable....any challenges from shipping to the US from Canada?

Lots. Depending on the price. I shall post two links to my two postings. One was clearly the jeweler's mistake but I still can not get my $ 800.00 back. I mailed a Mahenge to Canada; insured for $ 300.00; GST was $ 41.00. I do not want the jeweler to insure the ready item because it becomes too expensive...

Thanks crasru! I remember reading one of your posts...the thing is this cutter has a stone I'm loving and it's about USD200, which you would think should not be an issue to ship here to the US but I'm just nervous. Thinking about it.....

Anyone else know this vendor? I should have mentioned he's on etsy!!

I recently ordred two stones from them. Rogerio was very helpful in his communication, answered all my questions patiently and sent me an additional photo I requested. The package took a bit longer to deliver than I expected because Canadian postal workers were on strike, not his fault. But otherwise no problems with delivery. Unfortunately, I decicided to return one of the stones and mailed it back a few day ago. I was surprized how expensive it was to mail to Canada, so I hope it gets there with no issues. Overall, I would recommend them.

Thank you so much for the info! If you don't mind my asking, was there any tariff charge for rogerio sending the stone to the US, and how much was shipping the return back to Canada, in case I don't like the stone?

I didn't get any charges on the receipt of the stones. I have no idea if I'll get a bill for the return.
As for return postage, the first class mail was cheap, but it could not be tracked or insured. Priority mail with insurance ended up being around $25, which I was surprized at how expensive that was. I ended up sending registered mail for about $15, but it will obviously take longer to get delivered. Since I just sent it last week, I still don't know how long it will take. Hopefully Canadian post office is not on strike anymore...

Hi Arkteia,

Just to clarify, you have had experience with customs, but not us as a vendor. I do realize this response is 4 years overdue. Sorry, just saw this post.

Customs tariffs are complicated; however, generally speaking, loose gemstones do not incur duties/tarriffs crossing over the Canadian/US border. Local taxes will apply as they normally would. It is still always a good idea to confirm this information with the proper authorities.

You can avoid brokerage fees by not using a private courier. It is the private couriers who charge the brokerage fees for handling your item through customs.

As far as other fees go, those are up to the individual vendor. You will want to inquire with the vendor about his/her policies.

I hope this helps to clarify

Rogerio and Andrea
