Anyone been to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah?

Re: Anyone been to the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah

Oh, Alexah, go! You will LOVE everything about it. One of my college classmates (& still friend) founded Best Friends with some of her...er...best friends. It is a Wonderful place -- you will remember it forever if you visit!

I hear it's amazing, my DH and I would like to go but out two Westies would object!

I've never been but we give every year to this wonderful animal sanctuary. There are 3 main animal rescue organizations we give to and this is one. They do amazing work. I would love to visit one day. I hope you go!

I would so love to go here on vacation - but I don't think you can bring your own dog along and it wouldn't be as fun without him...
Volunteering to help animals seems like a great way to spend a vacation!

If you are looking for someplace to go in nature with your dog, national parks in Canada are dog friendly! My dream vacation is to go to Banff and Jasper national parks with my furbaby and SO!

Thanks for weighing in JewelFreak, azstonie, missy, Hospatogi & alpackie! :appl: This seals it - it's on my bucket list!

Generally when we vacation, we take our pup with us (i.e., driving trips). Since we moved a year ago, we have a lot locally to explore still. We're in Florida so Utah (or Canada) isn't in the cards right now...
Love Canada though - before we were married, hubs & I went up there quite a bit.

I've not yet spent any time in Utah so this will be great; getting to see every US state is also on my bucket list (I've seen 31 states and counting) so it's a twofer!

I hope you do get there. Your dog will be happy to have you go & see the wonderful intelligent loving gifts these folks give to all types of animals who need it. It will give you a glow you didn't know was there.

Hospitagi, you can find no end of screwballs on the internet. This crazed person has managed to connect Best Friends with every evil group in modern history, from Scientology to Manson. For heaven's sake! It's such slander, I'm surprised she hasn't been sued & I am going to send the link to my friend at Best Friends. Why she picked on them is a puzzle but there's no telling what motivates nutcases.

The story is this: several friends, after graduating from college around 1970, bummed around the U.S. & Europe in a VW bus like thousands of other kids at that time. Eventually they -- I think there were about 5 or 6 people -- started talking about what they could do with their lives that would contribute something necessary to the world. They were all animal lovers & felt that as the capable animals we humans are, it is our responsibility to fill the desperate need other animals have for help, so began looking for a place to start a sanctuary. They landed where they are in Utah because that's where they could afford enough land for their vision -- at that time nobody else was there & land was cheap.

What impresses, no, awes me is that they didn't fool around for a few years & then let it peter out. They put real smarts & work & heart into it and have helped millions of animals (and people who love them) in the U.S. & in disaster areas around the world. My friend's full-time job is raising funds to support this VERY expensive operation.

Don't believe something just because some fool decides to write it down.

It's a shame that people can write lies on the internet. I know we have freedom of speech but I think when it can genuinely hurt someone or really negatively impact their lives that it's not quite fair. You should definitely tell your friend to make them retract the article and take it off the web. Helping animals is a wonderful thing to do and it's definitely admirable that your friend is taking on such a worthy cause.
