Any top-up color comparison photos?

I am finalizing selecting a few diamonds to view next week. The diamond I choose will be for the center stone for an engagement ring that will eventually hopefully be set in a platinum setting by MWM. Some of you may remember that I had originally purchased a 1.55 ct D VVS1 but after reading this board religiously for a month or two, I decided the cut wasn''t optimal and I decided to return it.

In the meantime, I also came to the conclusion that no one other than experts would see a noticeable difference in a D or E versus an H, for example, and a VS1 versus a VVS1 so I expanded my search criteria.

I''m now looking at stones in the range of 1.5-2.2 ct with an emphasis on H color and VS1/VS2. However, as I get closer to the viewing date and given that I will have a limited number of stones to view, I want to ensure I am comfortable with this color difference, particularly in this size.

I have gone to local jewelers and they have a good selection of F''s, but most are not great cuts and most are EGL rated rather than GIA or AGL. And they are also almost all in the <1 ct range so I expect a larger stone may show more color.

I am curious whether anyone has platinum-mounted photos (face up and side view in different lighting) of a range of colored diamonds? Or a link to something like this?

I have searched and can only seem to find the normal ''white paper loose diamond'' view.

You know, I was going to search and post the link to some of the comparions I''ve seen here... but I kind of hesitated.

As you probably have read, there is an emphasis here on optimal cut. And such, that cut, an ideal one, will "help" the color perform. In a way.

Meaning - an ideally cut "H" may look "whiter".. or a better term would be "more colorless" than an NON ideal "H".

That being said, if you are lining up stones, that may not be certed with say GIA, or AGS certs.. then you may acutally prefer the "D,E,F" colored stones - especially if you find yourself sensitive to color.

I''ve seen an excellent cut K color stone that looked very very "white".. only because it was sparkling so much!

So, I''m not sure what to post to you. There are lots of examples of "ideal" cut stones and comparisons.. but I do believe (based on what I''ve seen in person) that cut really is going to matter in this situation.

Haha.. That''s exactly the problem I had. I went down to the local B&M stores here and asked for a comparison. They showed me an E and an H and I couldn''t tell much difference, but one stone was a GIA and one was a EGL and they were both smaller unmounted stones.

I will see them in person in a week, but am getting anxious I suppose!

I upgraded a few months ago from a 1.53 G to a 2.36 J. I LOVE my J, and I have never regretted it. Here''s a photo of the two diamonds side by side...

Sorry my pics are not of mounted stones, but I tend to think they will look even closer in color once in a setting.

These are great!

I would not expect H to show anything but colorless in a picture. Maybe... who knows how. The shade is too week, IMO. There are pictures attempting to illustrate near-colorless grades, but they err into being too yellow, IMO. This is relatively easy to detect if the same scale also goes into J-K: proportionally, those get to look very vibrant yellow - only if that was true!
