This is my first post but have been lurking for several months. You guys are a great wealth of knowledge. Anyways, I am considering purchasing this pear and would like to get any of your thoughts, good or bad. Also Do you think this pear would look nice in a halo setting. Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry specs did not post. They are as follows:

GIA
1.66 ct
H
SI2 (supposedly eye clean)
10.61 x 6.78 x 4.03
Depth: 59.4%
Table: 58%
Girdle: Medium to Slightly Thick, Faceted
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good

If your numbers are plugged into the do-it-yourself cut advisor on the Accredited Gem Appraisers website, your pear receives a grade of 1A, which is "ideal" for fancies. It seems the cut on your pear is good and as for whether or not it would look good in a halo....uhhh...YEAH!!! But I'm biased...

Have you seen it in person? It's always wise with fancy shapes...

Check out this pear thread for setting ideas!!

mmmmmmm......that is one yummy looking pear!

First point, I love the girdle outline (aka shape appeal) on this stone. On fancy shapes, this is very important.
I have seen some very "blocky" pears, and some that looked almost like trillions, but this one has a perfect
teardrop shape in my opinion.

Numbers look good, only comment is that the pavillion depth may be just a tad shallow (which is causing
the total depth % to be a tad shallow too).

Have you seen the stone? With fancy shapes you have to rely on your eyes even more so than
with RBs.

Good luck.

Okay, well I''m another biased one (I have a pear halo too

). The stone looks great as far as the numbers go. The l/w ratio is what I consider perfect, but that''s another one of those personal preferences.

Hi & welcome to pricescope!

OK, now that the true pearbies on this thread have commented, all I need to say is that it looks like a beautiful stone and boy oh boy, when that halo setting is done, it will look incredible!

Please keep us updated on the progress.

Thank you everybody for your replies. I have not seen this diamond in person, but I think I might have it sent to an appraiser before I buy. Anyone reccommend one appraiser over another? Thanks again.

Wow! THat is one pretty pear, as for the halo..YES!!!! I LOVE FireGoddess ring and Diamondslil is spiffy too... Seriously though I adore this pear and the outline is so even and a true pear shape not all flat on the bottom. I would say this one is worth a closer look.

I have a question on the spread of this stone as well. It seems to me that this stone faces up larger than its carat weight, am I right in saying this? Thanks

Brian

Probably faces up larger than most because of the depth percentage -- slightly on the shallow side but definitely not excessive. When there is less weight on the bottom, there is more spread on top. It''s a good thing.

Ditto to what DL said, and though being more spready is definitely! a perk, this is another reason to see the stone in person...shallow stones can have a more exaggerated bow-tie (dark area) so you definitely want to make sure you love the way the stone looks in person. Your stone is not overly shallow, but every fancy has got its own "personality" and you want to make sure it "gets along" with yours.

Well, I just had Whiteflash send this stone to Rockdoc. Hopefully it will turn out to be a great stone.

Let us know how it goes, esp. if you decide to keep it and set it!!!

Here are some more pics I got from RockDoc on the stone. I am curious to see what everybody thinks.

Sorry about all the posts; I am not sure how to collage the pics. Oh, and this is the last pic.

What I think is that it looks like a very lovely stone.

I personally love the shape. That l/w ratio is my preference. It looks icy white and crisp. Ultimately, you''ll have to see it with your own eyes to know if it is the right one for you, but I think it''s a winner!

Let us know what RocDoc thinks.

DiamondLil

It looks gorgeous to me, I can''t wait to hear rocdocs opinion.

I think it is lovely! What did RockDoc say? What is your current position on the setting?

I think it''s beautiful and will be curious to see what Rocdoc has to say. I think a halo setting will be spectacular!!!
