I just want to say thanks to everyone that commented. RockDoc has not completed the appraisal yet, but so far he has test the diamonds durability. He said there was no strain to worry about and no durability issues. As far as the setting goes, I am just starting to get the ball rolling. I am just getting a quot from Whiteflash and some local jewelers, but I will keep you guys informed.

I am definately going with a halo, probably 1 pt melee. I also want to prong set. This is a little photo I made up that shows what I want.

I love your idea. I think the melee on the sides of the halo will be gorgeous. I wanted those too...but I had some budget constraints.

A few things to consider based on your design...the culet on the pear is going to need to be set several mm high off the finger so that it doesn''t (A) poke the wearer and (B) get dirty all the time. The collar on the halo might be thicker than you think, depending on the thickness of the band. It depends on the ring design. Second, if you want a matching w-band (diamonds?) it may be beneficial to have the bottom of the head a little higher than the height at which the other ring is going to sit, or they''re going to potentially abrade each other. The alternatives would be to get a w-band that is not as high, or one that has a cut-out where it slips under the e-ring. The only negative about that last option is that the w-band would look silly if worn on its own.

I''m sure WF and others will have considered these things as well...but that''s my 2 cents. A gorgeous design!!!!

Your right I am not quite sure how thick the collar on the halo will have to be, but I don''t mind if it is a little bit thicker. I was also thinking of making a two tier collar witht the bottom collar slightly smaller than the top. I have seen this done and it looks pretty nice. What are your thoughts? As for the wedding band, it would have a flat notch so that it can slide under the collar. My girlfriend said she is probably going to just solder them together anyhow.

I think a two tiered collar on the halo would be awesome. Really visually interesting and sooo unique. I just love the idea. I also think if your gf is absolutely sure about never wanting to wear the w-band alone/just soldering it together, then definitely go with the notch cut out of the w-band. Just make sure she''s sure about that!!!
