I recently received this Welo opal ring created by David Klass. The opal was purchased from Jim McCormick. These are David's pictures.

Wow, Miriam! What a great setting and stone! The compliment each other perfectly, and I'd love to see hand shots. Please start a thread on this one! :appl:

I'm really enjoying this thread. This is my much loved Boulder Opal pendant bought in Australia, I love it's colour and fluid style. Set in white gold with tiny diamonds, sorry I can't remember any stats on it (and can't get it to rotate on the page).

Beautiful additions, MiriamS and Hounddog. Love the colors I am seeing in your opals!

Here are my finished boulder opal pieces that I just received. Ring is 14K rose gold and the earrings are set in hammered silver with rose gold ball accents.

All these photos are wonderful! I have a soft spot for opals. Here's a 22 ct welo I was toying with setting today. The photos don't do it justice at all. IRL it has way more fire and looks a tad less transparent. It has both a snakeskin and a honeycomb pattern to it at different levels of the color bar.

Hello opal lovers! I have this beautiful opal that is a favorite of mine. It appears to have the profile/silhouette of Beauty & the Beast on its face! :)

How cool is that Beauty and the Beast Opal!

Love this thread! Here is my boulder opal with a woman in it! If you look carefully you can see her arms are raised above her head. Also welo opal earrings that I love. I transfered them to gold ear wires (the group ahot is a vendour shot)
Next is my Lightning Ridge black opal that I call my dragon's egg opal. Last is my white opal ring which has all the colours of the rainbow in it. Sorry for the dry hands!

Thank you for starting this thread Bron!!
You have a gorgeous opal pendant. I love the subtle colour in the stone.

I am European and I love opals too. Recently I have purchased my first black opal from Lightning Ridge Australia and it will be set by Australian jeweller Alistair Kelsey.
Can I share my black opal here as well?

Any thing from Justin is amazing, love his videos and his work.

Lucky I just took a few photos of my inherited one today. It's a solid Lightning Ridge opal set in 18k gold. It was my nanna's.

Beautiful pendant!

Oh wow! That's a beauty hotpozzum! I love your collection too ilovegemstones! Here's my little contribution...
My mom's opal and enamel pendant passed down to me next to a sapphire and opal enhancer for my pearls (covered from an antiques ring), a couple of unset opals, my victorian 4-5ct crystal opal, and a welo opal ring I made. Darn it's hard to photograph opals!

Ha, "oldie" covers it quite nicely I guess. Thanks theredspinel!

BlueGemz, Your set is absolutely stunning! Elegant and lovey!

Here is another opal from Coober Pedy, and a less blurry shot of the blacks. Technically, the earrings are more of a grey base.

image.jpg image.jpg This isn't mine but wanted to share:

From Isadora's Antique Jewelry online, it's a ring from the Victorian era. I'm absolutely taken with it.

However the asking price is $14500--too much?? What do you guys and gals all think?

Such amazing stones, everyone! Thank you for this thread, it is pure eye enjoyment. I have some Welo opals. Would prefer a black one. But probably have not grown into opals.
BTW - I am very happy that we have so many Aussies on the forum, my family had a great trip to Australia, an amazingly beautiful country.
I bought an Australian opal, but something did not click when I got home. But - memories of the country are the best.

IMG_1168.JPG IMG_1167.JPG I'm in love with opals! I have this necklace I wear on a 26 inch gold chain. It has a Vietnamese natural blue akoya pearl, a opal heart from Australia , and an opal I bought at the gem show.

Wow, what a cool combination of opals and a pearl! That must be a lot of fun to wear. I really love the elongated opal because It goes with the color play very well and reminds me of a shiny, beautiful fish!

Forgot about my orange opals. Orange is "the mood color" for me.

Cool! Is it Ethiopian or Mexican?
Ethiopian. It's currently being set at the Jewelers, I'll post more pics after it's set. I have a neon orange Mexican fire opal, but no play of color.

Here's a honey colored one (13x11mm) and a "sherbert" 13x9mm Welo stones. The sherbert one is very greenish blue, with orange undertones. It's hard to see in these pics, as it's very crystal and transparent. It has dense pinfire across the whole surface. It is hard to photograph.

This is not mine, but I visited it on several occasions at the jewelry store. It's a fine example of what I call a "sherbert" colored Welo opal. You can clearly see both the greenish blue and orange. The photo doesn't do it justice.
