Any advice on the following JA diamond?

Blue nile is fine. James Allen settings are, IMO, better. However, I know they haven't been able to get the handmade six prong due to COVID. The blue nile settings that say "special order" are the ones fitted to the stone. Their petite nouveau solitaire is nice and would be what I would go with from them for the 6 prong basic setting style.

Hi kb1gra, yes I was originally looking at the petite nouveau setting but it says “special order” so I think I’m going to go for the classic 6 prong - is this setting adequate or not worth it?

I have spent all day looking for diamonds on Blue Nile - it is strange how if I set “UK and GBP” the diamond suddenly becomes unavailable while it is available in other currencies...

Which setting are you looking at on JA...which one on BN?

Edit...I really like the stone @flyingpig posted.

i was looking at the six prong knife edge or the comfort fit on JA. While on Blue Nile, the classic six prong only because the petite nouveau is not available.

I loved being surprised by my ER. I get that’s a minority view on here - the woman will wear something for rest of her life etc - but it’s one of my most fond life memories. Just puttin that out there for what it’s worth.

Aaw thanks motownmama - hopefully it’s going to turn out to be a nice surprise! I am planning to propose on our 10th year of meeting each other (which is in September). I just want to choose a nice sparkly diamond and for her to say “YES”. Hopefully I have some time to make the right purchase as I’ve got almost 2 months. However, it seems like it’s a minefield...

Obviously very grateful for everyone’s help so far!

This is a half carat on a 4.75 which is pretty close to size 5. Looks great!

That's a shame if the petite noveau/JA handmade 6 prong is not available. The prongs might look big with the other settings. Also I like that JA can provide an idealscope.

Would you consider Whiteflash as they have this petite setting and also their diamonds are super ideals so cut wise you can't get any better! Would you be willing to drop clarity if eye clean? https://www.whiteflash.com/engageme...-six-prong-solitaire-engagement-ring-6158.htm

I recently bought a ring with the knife edge 6 prong from JA but it doesnt come until 8/17.

Thanks istase2000 - I am prepared to drop clarity but without seeing the diamond in person I though VS1/2 would be safest - I am a newbie with diamonds!

The ring on Whiteflash looks great! However, I don't really want to worry about import taxes etc unlike Blue Nile.

Thanks ThiaChelf - when did you order the ring?

That looks great (and cheaper too!) Will the strong blue fluorescence be an issue? I've read that it can make a diamond look cloudy.
Hi Zingy,
I wouldn't rule a diamond out because of fluorescence. In rare cases it is possible to have negative impacts but the vendor should be able to inspect the stone and confirm this!

Other BN options:
https://www.bluenile.com/uk/diamond-details/LD06312512 - I quite like these proportions

Also, lower clarities can be completely eye clean even if scrutinised - just need to pick the right one. WF would be very honest about it.

Safe you say you've decided to go with BN, is that right?

Hi istase2000, yes I think I have decided on BN. Thanks for all these options - I will look at them.

I saw that you posted on another thread a lovely diamond but it appears to have been sold - https://www.bluenile.com/uk/diamond-details/LD13640793

Something like the above would be very fitting!

I was going to recommend that D VS1 to you from the other thread but it was already sold :( how about the D Vs2 I posted?

The crown and pavilion aren't fully complimentary on that one so I probably wouldn't take the risk without an idealscope or aset

Thanks istase2000! Yes, the D VS2 looks great - (again stupid question) I can see that there is medium fluorescence, will that be a problem?

Not stupid! It's rare but it can cause haziness in the sun/under UV light. The vendor should be able to check for you if it's a problem. Mine has medium fluorescence and it's great! The certificate for the D VS2 is from 2015... not sure if that's a problem.

If you would prefer to stick with faint/no fluorescence, out of the ones I posted I also really like the E VS1 (looks very clean and good proportions). If you want to maximise size, the G VS1 (faces up large - not my favourite proportions but still within ideal range)

Another nice one but more expensive

You are AMAZING istase2000 - thank you for all your help! You're too kind! I'll have to sit down and think about it and look at all of them.

Hopefully the girlfriend will be happy with whatever I choose :)
