Hi all, I''ve only been cruising this sight for a couple of weeks now but have learned some great things.

I was in an Antique store this past weekend and noticed their diamond ring case. They had some real beauties! I tried this one on for size-of course, it fit perfectly. My unprofessional eye thought it was gorgeous and the color was very bright-almost blue. It HASN''T been "certified" yet. What do you think? I appreciate any feedback.

18K white gold setting
1.73 VS2 - J or K
2.53 TW w/princess cut on either side
$7500

With princess cut sides, and white gold (both relative recent inventions) the ring cannot be all that old - definitely not "antique" (is that starting at the 100th birthday?). But the description sounds tempting

That could have been a stone with blue fluorescence, of there was something blue for it to reflect around... Wat do I know ! However, I can certainly understand why those color grades are charming. What was the shape of the center?
Are you considering buying it ?

I would show it to an appraiser rather than lab (save myself the waiting game)to get a set of approx. grades for color and clarity and confirm the bargain (the rig would take about 10k to build new, and I have no idea what the setting was like, or the cut of the stones)...

Ana,

I didn't mean to imply that the ring was an antique. I believe they buy quite a bit of estate-jewelry.

The center stone was gorgeous. I believe it was a brilliant round-very large & sparklie. Again, I wouldn't know what I was looking at being fairly inexperienced (although my ex-husband was a "dealer", so I picked up a little info from him). In looking at it under a loop, I could see 2 faint inclusions to the far right which were not very noticeable. To the naked-eye it had a blue-hue. I have a pix on my digital camera. If I can get it onto my computer at home I can send you a photo. The setting was a little unusual. The princess cuts were on either side and they were stradled by a band of other smaller diamonds that went down each side of the band (to the left and right), and this band curved almost like a bow on a present. The white gold band coloring looked a little unusual to me too. It looked like it was more Nickel than anything else (darker).

I'm not sure if this was a real gem that I stumbled upon or if they were over-pricing a really average ring. I was very tempted to buy it on the spot. I'm not sure if they'll let me have it appraised. This shop was located out-of-town...

Thanks for the reply!
