Another... what do you think of this diamond????

Hi all,

I have been lurking daily for the last 6 months learning everything I can and have made a couple of posts. I am in the market for a diamond for my engagement ring (something like the Whiteflash Fine Line) and am on a strict budget of around $5500 for the stone. I have been looking in the H SI2 (eyeclean) range with the best cut quality i can get in the 0.90-0.95ct range. My jeweller has got this stone in for me and I would like an opinion on the stone.. Please note I am in Australia and am keen to buy the stone locally.

Are you happy with this stone? Why? Why not?

While I''m not an expert, if cut quality is of primary importance to you, as it is with most others here on PS, it is my suggestion that the perfect stone for you is still out there waiting for you to find it.

Since a great cut is the major determinant of overall light performance and only tends to enhance the color and, at times, possibly even mask the clarity, I would have to concur with you and agree that you might be inclined to wait and find a lower color stone with a better cut quality in order to be completely satisfied, regardless of whether or not this particular one is good for the price.

seems like there are ideal stones to be had online around 4000 USD.

imo, don''t settle when it comes to your ring.

this one doesn''t cut it.

I agree you can do much better! But if you have seen it and love it that is the main thing, but compare it to some tighter cut diamonds to be sure it is what you want, and also try to scrutinize at it away from the jewellery store lights if you can, to see how it will look. Also sometimes inclusions can jump out in some lights more than others, as this is an SI2 grade.

Just to add onto the good suggested numbers, especially at the steeper end of 35 crown angle / 41 pavillion angle, if you find a diamond of that combo, try to get an Idealscope image to further evaluate a diamond which may be bordering on the steep side. Also if you want a nice make of diamond and not necessarily a superideal, you can use the Holloway Cut Advisor for crown and pavillion angles just outside of these ranges which might work well together.
