Hi,

My girlfriend wants an emerald cut diamond for an engagement ring. I read a bunch of the blog posts here on price scope and found what I think is a good diamond from James Allen:

The stone is in my price range and I think it looks good, but I'd love any advice. Basically, I was looking for something with the following characteristics:

Cut
Length/Width Ratio: 1/1.2 to 1/1.4
Table: 65%-69%
Depth:58%-62%
Girdle: Medium-thick
Crown: 10%-13%

Color: F or better
Clarity: VS2 or better
Carat: 0.8 - ~1.05

Also, I'm not really sure about the setting. I was planning to choose something simple then go with her to a local jeweler to find something she likes. But if I order it online, will I be able to exchange/return the setting? Any thoughts on how to do that?

Bump... This got buried over the holiday... There are some good EC folks here that can help...

I bought an EC from JA as well - seamless process. Keep in mind that they will do ASET images for up to 3 stones, which you need, hand in hand with the gemologist's in-person assessment, to assess light performance.

Have you read this? https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/emerald-cut-diamond

When I was looking I tried to keep the depth and table both in the 60-65 range. A deeper stone will face up smaller than a less shallow one due to the extra weight in the pavillion (most likely not in the crown).

I can say I don't care for the one you picked - too much black, which I'm concerned may show itself as shadows in real life. I know the "black bars" in the video of mine are just that to my eye in person.
