that is hoping for a sunny and 50ish Xmas day? I actually screamed as best as my frail and sick voice could do when I heard "snow showers possible" tomorrow on xmas eve. I am not a fan of snow. I despise it in fact. I see no beauty in it, at all. It kills people in traffic, it kills people clearing it. It's hideously awful. Nothing positive about it. Not one damn thing.

But beyond that..it has been gloomy and gray and bleh and rainy for like a month solid and I cannot stand it anymore. I wanna see what my new car looks like in sunlight, dammit.

You are not the only one who hates snow, but I guarantee you that in moderation and on the ski hill, there are a LOT of us who love it.

I love it in the winter when I can ski on it.

I love it in the spring when the moisture turns things green with new life and the contrast of a warm day makes my soul soar in that magical way that only spring does. The same sort of day in the fall fills me with contentedness as I contemplate the cold times and dreary weather to come, but ahh, in the Spring it is MAGIC that I never felt when I lived in LA where the advent of Spring was but little different from the cool of a warm winter.

I love it in the summer when I can kayak in its melt.

I love it when the day breaks bright and shines upon its new fallen beauty.

I love it when I take my 10X loupe out and look at individual flakes and clumps of flakes on a chilled plate or a scarf laid out just for the purpose of catching flakes for me to treasure before they melt.

Not so fond of scraping off the driveway, which is why I treasure my neighbor who bought a great snow blower machine. I often borrow it and do four or five driveways for her and other neighbors in an hour or so. Turned a hated drudgery into a fun gift of giving.

This year a neighbor who had never acknowledged the gift came home while I was blowing her driveway and thanked me profusely. Turns out she had never known who it was who was doing it and had been wanting to thank the person doing it, but since I do it during the day when no one is home, no one was able to tell her. (Kind of ruined the "Secret Santaness of the gift, but it was nice too.)

So, sorry, but I will not join you in your hatred of snow, but I will join with many in wishing better health for you in the year to come and in saying that I hope you have a good Christmas with your husband. You are a valued asset here on Pricescope and we all treasure the gifts of knowledge and advice that you so often share. Please know this and let our appreciation for you warm your heart during the snow that you must endure.

Mid-60s for my Christmas Day. Will be putting a prime rib on the rotisserie which I place on a table on the patio by the pool. Finn, my Westie, will be sitting in front of said rotisserie, licking his lips periodically and ensuring that mom does not overcook the prime rib (he likes it medium).

Come on over to my house, I'll pour you some champagne and you and Finn can monitor the prime rib while the waterfall in the pool goes.

Now, if I had a snowblower, I would maybe hate it a morsel less, I doubt it, but I'd dread the driveway less anyway. And maybe I'd blow a few driveways off in kindness.

Ugh we get the ice more than the snow actually. We get what is actually called a shit sandwich. Typically the ice, then snow then more ice. It's a treat!

We rarely have snow on Christmas. It's usually 40 degrees and gray/rainy. My favorite Christmases ever were spent with my family at the beach. Not warm enough to swim, but certainly warm enough for sunny/breezy walks along the water.

PSr's need to switch homes like Kate Winslet and Cameron Diaz in "The Holiday."

Ame, lol, "shit sandwhich," we had those in Anchorage and Juneau. Those conditions are to be FEARED, the lead to cars in ditches, bang 'em ups on the roads, and falling square on your ass while trying to cross a street with any kind of slope to it at all When I first moved to Juneau I did not have the appropriate footwear (Sorels) for the conditions and I came out of my bank and tried to cross the street, slipped/fell and COULD NOT get enough traction to get back up! Middle of the street. A nice man came out and basically picked me up and put me on the curb. EMBARASSED. Bought the Sorels, which I swore I would never wear, on my lunch hour that day.

Loves Vintage, ah, Anchorage, I really loved living there. The Coastal Trail is beautiful. You must go back and take the train out to Kenai and get on the catamaran for whale watching!

I actually bought Sorels just last week, I was actually hoping I'd be able to walk on that crap this year if I had something like that! I was heading into Costco of all places for Milk and stuff, and they had a whole ton of Tivoli IIs. I was like hey wait...I was trying to get some at Nordstrom the week prior but my size sold out literally as I hit Checkout. So I was overjoyed to get them, AND $40 cheaper! I had bought some Ugg snowboots that were way more expensive that I didn't really love just so I had something useful this year, and hadn't worn them yet. I got these home and tried them on and DH was like "oh I like these." I said good they're way cheaper than the other ones you said were HIDEOUS!

Hubby grew up in NY and learned at an early age that he had to shovel his mom/dad's driveway before he could do the neighbor's (who gave him $5 to do so). He just told me that he LOVED playing in the snow as a kid. As he got older, he got smart and bought his parents a snow blower so he could get the job done more easily. Then he wasn't so smart and followed a girl to Pullman WA (to attend WSU giving up a scholarship at MIT). He said there was lots of snow there and temperatures even colder than NY. Finally he came to his senses and moved to CA where the ocean is an hour away to the west, and snow is available 3 hours to the east.

I was born and raised in San Francisco so sadly there was no snow in my life until hubby took me to Yosemite NP one year in March. The snow was absolutely beautiful.

Living in the mountains brought a fair amount of the stuff most years, but now we only get a tiny bit of snow maybe once a year when the snow level gets down to 2500 feet or so.

Come to CA, Ame. You can have a little snow and a lot of sun. Your Outback will still be fun to drive here too, I promise. Hope your feeling better soon!

I am in SF Bay area and it would take an act of God to get snow out here on Christmas, but I would welcome it. I would not go out of the house, however, because snow in the SF Bay area would mean driving on the highways out here would be a special effort toward a swift death, but I do love snow.

Elliott, You can come stay at my house. We are expecting a few inches tomorrow night. I'll light the fireplace, make up you a cup of hot chocolate and you can sit in the great room and look out the windows at the snow. I love it if I'm at home and not driving in it. My greatroom and kitchen have a wall of all windows and the backyard looks so pretty when it snows.


Ame, Chicago is getting hit tomorrow night too. It's so weird because it's close to 50 degrees today.

I like snow. The reason we spend summers in Michigan and winters in Florida is not to avoid snow. It's because there is no sun .
