Altering Engagement Ring Edge

I received my engagement ring setting today and am thrilled with the result. After much research and a custom-design-gone-wrong with a local jeweler we purchased a cast ring from an out of town jeweler (we saw the ring while on vacation and couldn't find it locally). The only detail that I requested with the custom design that is not featured in the cast ring is the comfort-fit / rounded inner edge of the ring. Is this something a jeweler can round out or would the entire ring have to be remade? The process has been long enough as it is that I don't even want to propose the idea to my boyfriend unless its an easy fix! Thanks for your input.

I think a skilled goldsmith could easily do that. Did you ask?

I know people have had jewelers "soften" up the pointed edge on a knife edge setting so I would think they could soften the sides
of a setting (may be dependant on pave location etc.).

I assume what you presently have is flat on the inside and a curve on the outside. A comfort fit is curved on both sides. So, like @ringo865 and @tyty333 said, you can have them soften (take of the sharp edge) between the outside curve and the inside flat surface. But, if you want a true comfort fit, you will need to have them either replace the shank or re-cast with a new shank design.

FWIW. For my ering, I have no issue with the flat inside and its a bit wider than some at 3.2 mm. For my wedding band which is 5.5 mm, I do prefer it to be comfort fit -- thought that is as much because I often wear it alone in dirty/wet/yucky setting I don't wear my ering.
