Hey everybody,

So in the early stages of shopping for an ering. I know my gf wants a very simple 4-prong solitaire (I''m looking at RB, ~1.2 carats), which seems easy enough. I just wanted to check and see if there are any pitfalls to look out for when buying the setting. So, a few questions:

One of the places I''m looking, based on recommendations on PS, is Dimend Scaasi. If you look here I''m looking at probably either Style 1 or Style 1A2F. Is there any problem with either of these settings?

If I don''t end up buying from Dimend Scaasi, is there anything I should look out for at other places when buying a 4 prong solitaire?

With only 4 prongs, should I really be going with platinum to make sure the stone is secure, or are white gold and palladium still viable options?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Whiteflash, Wink Jones (Winfield''s) and Good Old Gold and many others sell solitares. You might want to check them out too

Have you already bought the stone?

Thanks Skippy! I haven''t bought the stone yet, and the deal with Dimend Scaasi is that they won''t set a stone from somewhere else in one of their settings, and they won''t sell you just the setting without the stone. I believe they will sell just the stone without the setting, and I could get the setting somewhere else and have it set there, however I''m more looking for general guidelines when buying a simple solitaire setting... if there is any.

No, I don''t see any problems with either of those settings. Do we get to vote??

I like 1 much more, very pretty!

As long as the setting is well made, there shouldn''t be any problems. If you find one elsewhere, and are unsure of the quality, just post it on here for comments/advice.

Platinum or WG, either one is fine with 4 prongs, again, as long as it''s well made.

HTH!

Thanks Ellen! I know it''s pretty simple, so I figured there wouldn''t be too many pitfalls, but it would be a bummer to spend all that money on a stone, then put it in a crappy setting. Thanks for the advice, and the vote too

There''s never any harm in asking.

And you''re very welcome.

isn''t it crazy how different solitaires can be!?

i like both your choices, but i prefer the 1A2F as i gravitate towards very thin bands... but that''s just me!!

keep us posted on what you end up picking!

YES. I was excited to have an easy task of getting "just a simple solitaire" before I started digging in and realized that this can mean a lot of different things. And as an engineer, I probably have less fashion sense than just over 100% of the people here, which is why I appreciate any input you guys offer up (obviously, I got some input from the gf, but the more the better). She also tends to like the thin band, but I''m sure there comes a point when the band is too thin... just need to see it in person I guess. Thanks again!
