All about wigs!!!

@mellowyellowgirl I am thinking of trying to cut a fringe (bangs) myself. I'd rather not keep going back to the hairdresser just to cut bangs in all my pieces. It's just I have zero hair skills.

I have watched a few cutting bangs videos on youtube..it doesn't look that difficult if one is keeping it simple...but IDK. I have no talent when it comes to hair. Should I risk it? I could try on a less expensive piece but still it's not super cheap. Go for it? Or wait and schedule an appointment with the alternative hair dresser?

I would do the twist method

Nooooooo definitely wait! Or if you really want to do it, practice on a super cheap Amazon wig! I think it’s doable but not as a first time thing. You’ve got to cut something else first!

I know the feeling. I cut my own hair a few weeks ago!

Is there a wig you rarely wear and would not notice at all? lol try that because what does it matter if you’ve had it sitting around for months!

I do have many (expensive human hair) wigs i have not yet worn but I think I’ll try it on a cheap synthetic wig despite synthetic being different in cutting than human hair. At least it’ll give me an idea if I can. Thanks for your wise advice.

My hair is all good. It wasn’t styled or salon quality but it sat nicely and was even (no peculiar straggly bits). I just watched a few YouTube videos. I’m always in a wig when out in public now so I had no motivation to make an appointment and sit at the hairdresser. Definitely going to do it again! Plus with the money I saved I went and bought 2 more wigs

Haha no. I have now decided (but might change my mind again lol) to do a side swept bang but there is no way I can do that myself. I am going back and forth about what I want to do. I was very tempted and almost did cut it yesterday but then decided to wait. We shall see

Girl, I hear you. I have not cut my hair for a few years IIRC. But for me it's easy as my hair isn't really growing and like you I don't wear my bio hair out anymore except for cycling and hiking. I will not wear alternative hair when we are active. I don't color it either so it does save money...more money for alternative hair

@mellowyellowgirl I was a bad girl yesterday

We were cycling all day and at a rest stop I checked my phone and one of the vendors I like posted a piece for sale..her stuff sells immediately so I looked at the videos and added it to my cart and purchased all within a minute lol. It is arriving later today. I didn't even mention it to Greg. He won't say anything but I feel bad because I haven't worn most of my pieces. I know I will eventually though.

I have no time to make it to the hairdresser's either so I have about 6 new pieces that need bangs cut into them...i am try to resist cutting bangs into one of them myself but it's a time suck heading to the salon especially because I cannot ask her to do all of them at once.

But I digress. I really have so little time this week and the beginning of next but when I can I will take a photo for you my fellow hair enthusiast

When I first started wearing wigs hubby was alarmed, the child freaked out and would run off wailing, the neurodivergent little boy that I tutor actually cried. Now they tell me I look too much like myself in all the wigs and should do something crazy for fun!!!

So I bought this blondish wig. I think it’s too blonde but they are all egging me on so we’ll see if I’m brave enough to wear it out. Apparently even I have my limits

It is very Disney Princess-ish though which I love!

The first wig is just ombré waves which everyone says looks exactly like me but with great hair.

I really really really want to see your wig!!!!!! And I hear you on the hairdresser! It is a lot of errand running! I only used to cut my hair once a year but I used to put it off for ages. I used to perm my hair in my 20s and that took 5 hours at a time! Thank goodness for wigs!!!!!!!

@mellowyellowgirl, I love the new wigs. Wow, her hair turned out looking great. Watching her cut her hair was scary. I vaguely remember people putting their hair in a ponytail and cutting it to achieve a shag haircut many, many years ago.

Reason I am running late? LOL couldn't resist and took the time to try on the new wig that came yesterday and I love it. It is one shade lighter than the last piece I got from her last week (?) or the week before. I cut the lace (feels easy to cut the lace now and when I first started I agonized over that part)

I was impulsive (see I told you) and cut the bangs on the new piece...just now.....first time ever cutting bangs.
I did the twist technique
It is not 100% done because I ran out of time. Here's what I have so far...I will try to clean it up when I have time
Just a little bit of point cutting needs to be done

But as promised and because I know we are both alternative hair enthusiasts this is for you
Hopefully I didn't ruin my new alternative hair


I did a middle part. And I sectioned off the area I wanted to cut
Not too deep so in case I want to go back and make them thicker I can do that

It’s human hair. Long at 29”. My longest hair. Might cut some length at a later date if I decide it’s too long for me
I followed the video I shared above
Took a section from each side and clipped the rest of the hair away so I wouldn’t accidentally cut it
Then took them together and twisted the entire section and cut (with small hair scissors) straight across
Then I point cut a bit
All on me not the mannequin
Then took Greg’s blow dryer (I don’t own one lol) and curled them under a little to make it shorter without cutting more length
I want to make it a bit shorter because I don’t care for hair in my eyes
But I’m happy with this so far

For thicker bangs you’d start sectioning further up on the head
More hair equals thicker bangs


Side bang I will not attempt so will schedule an appointment with my hairdresser for the piece I got the other week
If you remember that’s this one
Though I could just use a barrette for now

It did not turn out as I had envisioned. I wanted blunt thicker bangs but I did not take enough hair so they are more on the anemic side and too long so I have to sweep them to the sides. It's the opposite of a thick blunt full bang. I have to get used to it or bring it to my hairdresser and see what she can do

Greg likes them but IDK.

First up the wig I cut bangs into the other day (the first wig I ever cut bangs into myself)...I just restyled and point cut a bit




OK next two. I had them for almost a year never wore them because my hairline (dark) sticks out so I needed bangs. Should have brought them to the hairdresser but I have so many needing bangs I decided to go for it. Ouffff

OK have to get going lol enough playing but I am leaving this one as is so far. It's the darkest brunette one I got last week. I was going to get side bangs cut professionally but for now I will pin it like this and see if I like it

They look great!!!! Honestly I prefer this type to thick bangs so it very much comes down to personal preference!!! You did a fantastic job! It’s very well cut!

Now you MUST wear them out!!!! All of them!!!! They look fantastic and so natural!!!!! If I’m going to rock a semi blonde $20 wig (wow I really went high end on this one ) from AliExpress out tomorrow, you can rock these beautiful, realistic creations!!!! I honestly love them all on you so much I was scrolling back to point out one that I thought looked best on you and can’t decide!

Hehe I did more naughty stuff! So my favourite wig vendor is promoting a new and improved realistic scalp and a lot of the new wigs have an early bird deal, meaning they cost like $15 each.

So I bought this:

It’s meant to be a dark red. I’ve got so many wigs that I feel exceedingly comfortable in, I want something that makes me feel a little more adventurous! I’m going to wear it with a green dress!

To quote my husband when I asked him if this was too anime/manga: Nothing wrong with looking like a cute anime character come to life.

Haha he’s so bad! He’s very reserved but likes to encourage me in my outrageous choices.

Then I went to my friend’s house and we tried on all kinds of wigs. She’s the one who started me on this journey. She’s cracking up at how enthusiastically I’ve embraced the journey. Omg my favourite wig store on AliExpress is releasing new and improved wigs and it’s driving me mental!!! So many new colours and designs. This is my friend’s. It’s been released on TaoBao but not on AliExpress yet. I badly want this one!!! Especially after all the long hair pictures you’ve been posting Missy!!! It’s so pretty in real life!!!

When I’m in a straight wig I swish and when I’m in a curly one I bounce cuz the curls bounce with me.

Haha thank you for sharing in my enthusiasm and yes! It feels super luxurious. This is European hair. Very silky and smooth. It rained all day (sprinkles) and it did not frizz at all. So unlike my bio hair. From start to finish it looked purrrfect
