@ missy-wishing you the same! Whatever the specialist says-it may not be an all or nothing thing. It may take awhile to get your body back into balance but you may be able to add small amounts of the things you like back in at some point. I hope that for you!

Missy-Hang in there! Health issues can feel daunting somtimes!!! Hugs :)

Thank you ladies. I am weak and just had some almonds. I rarely am hungry like this in the AM and since I started restricting nuts and beans and corn I am hungry much of the time. Not fun at all. And I just had 2 cups of my delicious black coffee. I am feeling defeated but only temporarily hopefully. Just do not like this feeling of hunger and that is so not my MO. Used to feeling satiated till I reduced much of the variety of what I eat. I am a picky eater and I guess now given so many less options I do not feel satisfied. :(

@missy, initially it took me less than two weeks to feel totally different. My joint aches were almost completely gone. I used to take a fair amount of nsaids, now I take virtually none. A headache is rare for me. I can’t even express how radically different I feel.

This AIP diet is really strict. Can you get some more fat in? Since you don’t eat meat, maybe avocados? It is definitely harder without dairy as well. Vegetables sautéed in coconut oil. I found a butter flavored(natural extract) coconut oil. I haven’t tried it yet though. The fat will keep you from feeling hungry all the time. I think that would be the key to being able to sustain it.
The more things you eliminate the harder life becomes but if it makes you feel better it can be worth it.

I can't say much about diets for specific health problems, but I have been doing Keto for about 5 weeks and absolutely love it. We have been so deceived for years about fats being bad, and they are not. It was always sugar and refined carbs that were more the problem. I am trying to lose weight, so I don't go overboard on fats, but I do use cream in my coffee and eat a little cheese every day. I use butter on veggies, too. I agree wth luv2sparkle that having fats makes one not starve. It's amazing. I do look forward to the day I can have a little fruit and potatoes, lol, but honestly, I do feel far healthier on this diet.

I really hope you can find what is best for you, Missy. I do believe our diet has a major affect on our overall health. I think the many years of low-fat diets has caused major health problems, possibly including Alzheimer's. My father had that, and I am determined to do as much as I can to avoid it.

Thanks @diamondseeker2006 and I’m so pleased for you having success with this change in your diet.

Ironically I was never one to avoid fats. Just tried to avoid added sugar as best as I could. But for me it seems what I thought were the healthiest foods (nuts, whole grains, beans) are least healthy (at least for me). I’m not perfect and I’ve never been perfect but I always thought I ate relatively healthfully.

Thanks for sharing what is working for you. Please keep us posted and wishing you continued success. :appl:

I think whole grains were ruined by GMO's, pesticides, etc. When I was eating bread the last few years, I only bought non-GMO, organic sprouted grain bread which is far better nutritionally than whole wheat. Eventually I may eat a little of that, but not right now. I think nuts are healthy, unless there are health problems that prohibit them. I eat unroasted, unsalted almonds on the Keto diet. I am really not considering this a diet as much as a healthy eating lifestyle change. We've been eating organic as much as possible anyway, but eating out wasn't always the healthiest! I love carbs and my body hates them!

@diamondseeker2006, do you feel amazing? I love this way of eating! I will never go back. I have gotten rid of a huge amount of cookbooks and replaced them with keto books. I actually have two coming today. I can’t say enough about it. Really, it makes me angry that we were lied to for so long. When I think of the number of times I have heard ‘eat less, exercise more’ spiel. All along, it was wrong. When I see people struggling with weight, I want to tell them they can feel so much better and not feel like they are starving. No one can stay in starvation mode for the rest of their lives but they can do this.

Good luck with getting the levels back down @missy.

Not surprised the doctor said sardines and salmon are OK, they're fairly low on the eco-system pyramid and thus fast-living so the mercury isn't an issue. As we've discussed it's the big predators where the mercury is the issue as they are the end of the road usually. No more swordfish :(sad

That is amazing! So pleased for you.:appl: I have to read more about juicing as I think that won't be great for me. I need the fiber and doesn't juicing remove that? My health issues are numerous Autoimmune diseases and three new ones in the past 6 months.

Fiber is really important, but without fat and protein, you'll continue to be hungry. For me, juicing was so important because the micronutrients helped my body know I wasn't trying to starve it. I've also never eaten so many avocados! You should watch the documentary Super Juice Me. It's about a bunch of people with various autoimmune conditions that started juicing and the results. I'm not saying that it works for everyone, but it's helped me stay on AIP for 3 months, and in turn has made me feel so good. I hope you find something that works for you.
