I was wondering what anyone's thoughts are on an AGTA report on a Blue Sapphire. The report is from 2009 and states Kashmir origin. Would you feel comfortable with a report this old or have it retested at another lab. Thanks!

I'd have it retested absolutely. AGTA is not considered one of the premier labs for colored stones, so if its important for valuation purposes, my first choice would be AGL, followed by GIA.

Thank you very much for the reply!

My friend that is looking for a nice ruby for an anniversary ring, also began looking at blue sapphires. He is torn between two stones, one is a ruby and one is a sapphire-his wife would be happy with either. I have not been in the colored stone buying position for sometime, so feel like I am not much help to him :)

Agree with Minou. 2009 is quite a while ago technologically and given the importance of the stone (Kashmir origin) and price, I would go the route of a full AGL prestige report (origin and quality evaluation).
