Hi Everyone,

Just like many ppl here I am going crazy trying to pick a diamond... so far I have 2 options:

* Shape Carat Color Clarity Price/ct Depth% Table% Diameter Pol Sym Flor LAB GIA Report Numbers
Princess 1.015 F VS1 $4492 74.8 70 5.33 x 5.32 EX EX N GIA 5106412281

* 1.01 carat Princess, F color, VS1 clarity, GIA certified. It measures 5.79x5.58x3.96mm''s, has a 71% depth, 73% table, with Very Good Polish and Symmetry, and the certificate number is laser inscribed on the diamond. Price for this diamond is $4118 (wire price). I also have a Sarin report for this diamond.

Do these diamonds look good? I am wondering whether the specs match the price and if its worh to pay the extra for one of them. Ideals?

for the second diamond I have a Sarin report too.

Thanks!
Sal.

Can you post the sarins, photos and links to the stones (if you put them on hold no one can snap them up while you are still thinking about it). Are these internet prices? Are you looking for alternative suggestions or just considering these 2 stones?

is that a full sarin report or just the average numbers?

Anyway, no way to really tell as we will need an image to judge the cut, preferably ASET image.

Hi, I am attaching the the info I have. For one diamond all I have are the specs I posted. For the other diamond I am attaching the Sarin, GIA and a picture of the diamond. I might not take the $4500 one, since the jeweler (unlike other internet places) will only replace the diamond if its not the correct one. So pretty much I am open to suggestions. I would really appreciate some guidance here, I don't have the biggest budget but I would like to make the best of it.

THanks!

Oh and I am currently trying to get the ASET image for the diamond that I just posted all the information.

Looks like a nice Princess, not cut to top standards but still could be a contender. The ASET will tell us more.

I requested both jewelers the ASET image, I hope to have it by Monday. I really appreciate the help all of you have been offering. Lorelei, do you think the diamonds seem to be well priced? If you have suggestions of other places I could be looking for diamonds I would really appreciate them.

Thanks!!!

A rough guess, the stone with the sarin is not a good cut, the crown height is too small. Ideally should be about 10-15% compared to this 6%.

Most welcome! The prices look to be in the right region for online prices if these are indeed online diamonds. If you want a better cut Princess you might have to pay a bit more but it depends on what you want. Here are some vendors who sell top cuts for you to browse through.

Stone-cold11: Does this means that the diamond is less than a "Very good" cut? in the site they have them listed as Ideal/Premium/VG/Good/Fair.. they have this listed as Premium... I would like to know whether they are overevaluating their diamonds.

Lorelei: The one with the sarin report is an online place, the other one is a store in NY. I currently have a budget of $4,000 ~ $4,500 I know its not much but I thought I might be able to get a nice 1ct diamond on that range, do you think it would be possible? Thanks for the links I will check out those place too, I hadn''t heard of those places.

Thanks Again!

As for the cut labels these terms are commonly used by many vendors but don't necessarily guarantee you a well cut diamond, best to evaluate each carefully on proportions and images to judge light return/ leakage as the case may be.

You can get a 1 ct for your budget but you might have to lower your colour and clarity to do so if you are open to that. If you get a great cut then lower colour and clarity can look beautiful, maybe look at SI clarity if eyeclean and G to J colour to help the budget as a suggestion?

Here is a well cut Princess as an example, just in budget if bank wire payment is used.

I think they are. Unless it has some amazing cutting.

Even if they based it on this set of guidelines, old guidelines before ASET, this stone would be at best a class 2B cut, not a 1A premium.

Lorelei: I think right now I am going for Weight/Cut/color/clarity in order of priorities, do you think that is a good order? Is it a good idea to have slighty better color and clarity if I lower the cut requirements?

Stone-cold11: I hope I get the ASET images from both vendors soon son I can share them with you guys.

Thanks so much for your time!
Sal.

I would drop clarity to eye-clean level, SI1/2. As long as you can''t see it, it will look the same as an IF.

Color is subjective, I am quite color insensitive so I can''t tell the difference up to a J.

Cut is most important for me.

I just heard back from one of the jewelers... (sarin diamond) he said that if I order the diamond I can get the idealscope image.. should that be good? Should I even be pursuing that diamond?

Stone-cold11: Thanks for the recomendation, I might need to take a second look at diamonds in a jewelry to see what is my sensitivity to color, but I usually just use my primary colors to describe things, so im guessing im insensitive too

Sal.

What does he mean by order? Is there a fee? A return period?

If me, I would forgo it, really no point with that shallow a crown, unlikely to be good.

Ya, go look around. Even with round stones, but only at AGS/GIA graded stones, other labs grading might be off.

Stone-cold11: Thanks a lot for the 2 suggestions, the one from whiteflash I can see yellow sparles on the diamond, is that because of the color or is that a photographic artifact? In the other one the incussions seem to be in the middel of the diamond, does that affect the brilliance? I actually like the one from whiteflash I wonder if I can notice the color on it.

Thanks!
Sal.

Oh, forgot to tell you, check with highperformance diamond if that SI2 is eye-clean. Wink will be truthful to you.

The yellow in the ACA is a reflection from somewhere, probably what the photographer is wearing that day. Not sure if you will notice the color, best to check you sensitivity in real life.

Good luck. :)

Is www.uniondiamond.com a good place to look for diamonds? The place seems to be considerably cheaper, but I am doubtfull of the quality of the cuts.

Thanks!
Sal.

Basically, AGS is the only lab that grades princess on cut performance, and only a Diamond Quality Document (DQD) report does that, not the other cheaper Diamond Quality Report (DQR) report. Which is why I ask you to ask UD if that stone comes with a DQD or a DQR report.

If you look at the 2 top cut stone I linked to previously, they all have the DQD report although in different format, one is the older format, the other the newer format.

UD are fine Sal, I know they can do Idealscope and might be able to provide ASET too, ask them if they have any AGS0 Princess they can show you.

They will do Idealscope if I buy the diamond
38.gif
I just got the reply from them.

I got this from them

"Thanks for emailing me your concerns. Honestly, despite the shallow crown, the diamond is still very brilliant. Usually an experienced diamond person like myself can look at a certificate and be 70% sure what the diamond will look like. But there''s the other 30% that, for one reason or another, doesn''t interpret what the numbers might say."

Ideas?

Stone-cold11: The diamond you sugested from them got sold

Lorelei: Thanks! I will do that.. does AGS incribe the report number on the diamonds? I wold like something like that to identify my diamond easily for when I take it for setting or something else.

Thanks so much for the help!

UD said they will do Idealscope if you buy the diamond? Who is that msg from?

Oh well, back to the drawing board. Check out the 2 0.9c stones I linked before. If you have the time, just wait to see if some other stones that fit your specs and budget pops up?

AGS can inscribe report numbers on the stone, but I do not trust that much as someone with the knowledge and right equipment can easily duplicate the inscription. Learn to read the inclusion plot is actually safer, as each stone is unique, like a fingerprint.
