Hello. In case you didn't know, I am on the hunt for a 7.5mm~ish OEC. But my budget has gone down from 13k to 9k due to, well...life :)

I was looking at this oec on the jbeg website. http://jewelsbyericagrace.smugmug.c...ut-Diamond/22713317_qcZhQf/1820718397_97RQhDB

Any thoughts or comments?

I have perused OWD, but I don't really know what I am looking at just by numbers. Does anybody have any suggestions?

A bit of info: I already have a setting that the diamond is for. The Tacori 2531. The problem is that the stones are G/H color. I wanted to stay around GIA J but since my budget has shrunk about 4k I'm hoping to find a lower color diamond that faces up well. Maybe with some fluorescence. I'm probably asking a lot with my budget... Experts? Is this a possibility?

I'm probably gonna see the 1.66 M this weekend but I would like to know what people think before I have them ship it over. Thank you very much!

Bumpidy bumpers :)

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I don't like the color personally. Seems very yellow to my eye. Not "warm" ... not "eggshell" but YELLOW.

In which picture? All of them? Most of them? Because for some reason I can't see the color... That's why I thought it would be a good pick since it was priced as an M but looked whiter... But I'm an amateur at looking at the pics...

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

Where the color looked the most "off" to me was against the skin tone of the person in the photos. On the hand it just looked ... well ... bad to me. Maybe if your skin tone isn't as pink?

I'd just prefer a smaller, whiter stone ... generally. ESPECIALLY if you're setting it with higher colored melee. I know, I know -- everyone's gone all LOW COLOR CRAZEE with old cut stones but - yeesh. This one is too low for me! And since no one else was weighing in I thought I'd say my 2c.

Well, I wouldn't mind going smaller and higher color but I'm stuck at 7.5mm... So it's hard...

Thanks for clarifying. I do see what you mean by the color on the hand. Although, I'm Asian so I'm not pink but maybe have a yellow or oliveish undertone.

I don't think the color would bother me too much if only my setting didn't have g/h melee.

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I think it looks like a very pretty stone, but I'd just be worried about it with G/H melee, especially in a halo. Some people don't mind emphasizing the difference, and deliberately choose a contrast though. You might love it! That Tacori setting has an antique-y vibe IMO, so it would work.

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I've always found OWD's website hard to use, at best. Email Adam directly and ask what he has in that mm size and a rough guideline of colors and see what he comes back with. I suspect they have about 5% of their inventory listed online, and the ones listed seem more expensive than the options he came back to me with individually.

I like the faceting of the JbEG stone, but when I'm making a big purchase, I like to make sure I've seen everything available before making a decision, you know? And does it look a bit dark in the center in some of the photos?

I would see what Adam has and go from there. :))

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I second justginger.... give Adam a call or shoot him an email explaining what you are looking for. He has so much more than what is posted on his site. He has a very keen ability for finding someone just what they are looking for, and he has a fantastic eye! I found him super easy to work with and he was laid back about sending me diamonds to view.

Good luck with your search!

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

Well Im biased as Ive just bought an M AVC..With these lower colours they seem to pick up and change colour alot from the surroundings, I dont see yellow in most of the photo's in fact I see green which is obviously reflection from the outside...if you like warm colours and the contrast of a whiter halo go for it, if it bothers you then I think you need a higher colour stone. It doesnt bother me as Im putting my M in a halo, its personal taste. I hope you find 'the one' for you, good luck on your search!

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I just watched the video of the stone, its beautiful!! No yellow at all, seriously I think its gorgeous...

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I don't see yellow. I see like..greyish greeny yellow. Kind of the color of the OEC that dreamer returned recently.

I also obstruction. Apparently most of these cuts have it, but hey.

I also ditto the suggestion to call Adam. Many people have been happy with their purchases lately, and he apparently has a 100% upgrade policy and has competitive prices. I have no idea what the price of this stone is though.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I thought I did see some obstruction...

I'm planning on going to visit Erica and seeing the diamond in person before purchase.

Since this is the first OEC I am seeing in person, what should I look for when looking for a well cut OEC? Minimal obstruction, but what about girdle thickness or thinness? Or anything else that doesn't usually come to mind?

Novicediamond! Thanks for the nice comments. I'm excited to see it soon! So have you finished your ring yet? I would love to see a picture of her M in a halo. What color melee are you going for?

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I like that stone a lot, I would consider it a classic OEC in its make. It has a little leakage but thats par for the course in those type of cuts IMO. YOu can't judge color from the photos and video. I would not pair an M with your setting, if its the one you got a few yeas back. But I wouldn't pair a J with it either. So you will have to see in person how *you* feel about any potential color differences.

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

The green is likely reflected from the tree above. ;)) It looks like a nice diamond.

I am worried that the M is going to look very yellow in my setting. -yes it is the same one from a couple years ago- but you're right dreamer, I wont know until I see it. Hopefully it won't look too bad. Or Grace told me that it would maybe be an option for Tacori to source some lower color melee for the halo and switch it out so that the M won't look so tinted.
I'm planning on contacting Adam after I take a look at the diamond from JBEG.

But the very thin to medium girdle... Should I be concerned?

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I think you may be surprised. Can you take your setting with you when you pay Erica a visit? This is a GIA M, so it may not be as tinted as you think...My OEC reflects whatever I have on or have it near, so color can vary. Interested to see what you find!

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I think an M with higher color melee could look really cool, in some lighting it might look more like a yellow fancy colored diamond, and in others it could look totally white (or all the diamonds could reflect the environmental colors). I second the idea of bringing the mount when you see the stone and take lots of photos. :cheeky:

Thanks vinjewels! I will be taking a setting with me to see Erica! I'm super excited to see how this M looks. I keep watching the video and I see no yellow at all. Hope its like that in real life!

Thanks rubybeth! I'm planning on taking pictures like crazy. :naughty:

Re: Advice please from the experts on this OEC-1.66ct M VS2

I'm late here, but I think the stone is really pretty. I agree that you might be pleasantly surprised - a Gia M could face up pretty white. And I agree with rubybeth that the slight contrast might look cool. please take pics and let us know what you think!

It's great you have the chance to see the stone in person!

So, my date is set with Erica for this Saturday. What should I look for in the diamond? I'm not sure how to judge whether I am seeing a well cut OEC. I may be too excited to comprehend ;)
I was checking out the GIA report and the clarity. They all seem to be at the edge, is this a problem?
