Advice on this Diamond Lineup

Hi Everyone,

I have a lineup of 5 stones that I attached with varying grades between GIA and EGL USA. I know there is a lot of skepticism among EGL on how they grade color and clarity. Based on the picture, are there any stones you would favor or completely rule out? Any suggestions would be great!

They don't look like the hearts and arrows that people show here, can you post big pix?
 
My vote is “No” on all, I am sorry. They don’t seem to have great cuts and I can see the inclusions, so hard pass on that one.

I'd say no, too. You absolutely have to pre-screen the diamonds' specs to have any chance to get a good one. Start with GIA Excellent cut ONLY.

These are measurements to help you stay in ideal cut territory with a GIA excellent cut stone.

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35.0 (up to 35.5 crown angle can sometimes work with a 40.6 pav angle)

pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0 if the crown angle is close to 34)
 
Thanks everyone, I appreciate the honest feedback. I had a feeling these stones were a no go. I'm more disappointed that I need to start my search all over again, I've been pulling my hair out lol. Atleast I didn't make the mistake and purchase.
 
Why don’t you post your budget and what you are looking for and maybe some of the experts here can find something for you? These are all a no for me too, but you will find something you love!
 
I'm looking for a round cut diamond around 1.5 ct with a budget of $8kish if that's possible.

Probably SI1 if eye clean or VS2. As far as color, I'm thinking H or I. The stone will be set in white gold so I don't want too much yellow.

I'm open to any suggestions. Any help will be much appreciated!
 
Any initial thoughts on the GIA 1.4 ct listed below? I also included a link to a video showing the stone.

I only see that the stone has a large table.. can we get the GIA # please?
 
Are you asking for stones that fall within the parameters above? You will have better luck finding something that performs well.
 
Grading report numbers will help out immensely. Vids can only tell us so much. This far all of the stones you have posted are a no go for me based off how they look.

I have to agree. But don’t worry- if you’re open to it, we will find you the perfect diamond :) (tomorrow, it’s late)
 
If you were to post your wants and budget I think that the folks here on PS would be able to assist you better. Just posting pictures and videos won't tell anyone one anything about the stones performance.

Would you like to see any "super ideal" cuts in your choices?
 
Has the intended provided you with any sense of color sensitivity? If not, I would tend to recommend you stay at I or above (I might stretch to J for a super-ideal or antique cut).

The difference between the two is only .05mm because the J is deeper, so don’t look at the carat weight only.

Also, the pre-loved option is a steal, but I am not sure what setting you are aiming for.
 
Thanks everyone! I'm going to put the JA I stone on hold.

Will JA be able to tell me if its eye clean? I see a small black inclusion in the middle with small feathers but not sure how noticable something like that is to the real eye versus the picture.
 
Yes. Ask them to have their gemologist review it. Eyeclean is usually at 6 or 8 inch viewing distance. This should be fine, but always good to check.
 
Thanks for all of the feedback on helping me pick out a stone that is so important! I definitely would have made some mistakes if it wasn't for all the input :)

I'm putting the stone in a solitaire ring. Any recommendations on 4 prong vs 6 prong?
 
That’s a gorgeous I True Hearts that rocky picked out!

As for 4 prong vs 6 prong, for stuff up around the 1ct mark and above, I prefer 6 over 4. More prongs means the stone is held more securely. Also, with 6 prongs, it will help to emphasise the round brilliant shape as a 4 prong makes it look a little “squarish”.

Only downside to a 6 prong is that with something with great optical symmetry (and H&A patterning), they may set the stone covering up some of those arrow heads. But that’s a relatively minor issue in the scheme of things. Just my 2 cents. Others will likely have a different view to me on number of prongs in a solitaire setting.
