Hi all,

New to the diamond world, but would appreciate some input on this diamond before I pull the trigger. Images of GIA, HCA, and Gemex reports below. Can you please rate? Price is around $26k.

These are the measurements to help stay in Ideal range with GIA stones:

table: 54-58

depth: 60-62.3

crown angle: 34-35

pavillion angle: 40.6-40.9

You may want to research 60/60 diamonds in this forum. It's when a table and depth are around 60. I had one and loved it, but it definitely lacked fire (colorful flashes) and favored white flashes.

Thanks. I see that the stone I'm looking at doesn't exactly fit those ranges. Is this a bad deal then? Any insight into the quality of the stone based on the numbers?

Bump. In other words, even though this is a 60/60 diamond, is it a good one? Or is the fact that it is 60/60 already make it not ideal?

For a 60/60 stone, the crown angle is still way too low. You still want a CA 32.5 or higher to avoid the diamond looking too flat on top and giving up too much fire IMHO. I think you will find that the posted diamond lacks fire and scintillation. I would keep looking.

If you like the look of 60/60 diamonds, these would be a few to investigate.

In addition to performance differences, 60/60 diamonds look a bit different. They tend to have a more prominent culet. You can see it is like someone took the arrows and pulled them outward from the center. But, in my example below, 60/60 on left - ideal on righ, you can see they are both still crisp with a clear pattern.

These are more classically angled Ideals with a lot of potential for fire and scintillation.

Something like this will give you good spread and fire.

#5. This has nice chubby arrows and great angles. AGS0 means it is graded strictly for cut.

Great balance of angles. Tiny blemish on table.

I'm using JA only because I like their videos, not because their diamonds are any better. You can contact JA to request and Idealscope image (IS) for any of these. #2 and 7 are my top choices visually. JA will only provide 3 IS images, so you may want to request these two and hold the 3rd as a backup.

Thank you, that is really helpful information. Based on the above then, is the below stone a better choice than the original stone I referenced at the beginning? The reason why I chose the first stone is because it had better light return under the scope, but am now interested in hearing yours (and others') views since the 60/60 cut may not be idea.

Shameless bump. Which stone is better? The first or second? The first one had slightly better light return.

#2 is not 60/60. So, you want to consider ideal proportions. The CA is high and table wide. I don't care for diamonds such as this. Keeping the table under 57.5 and CA closer to 34.5 is a better balance. Is there a vendor you want to use? Are the JA stones not to your liking?

I don't necessarily want a 60/60, which is why I showed option #2, as well. I already put a down payment on a rock at my vendor, so I'll likely have to stick with them, but with these replies, now I'm having second-thoughts on the stone (#1) I originally picked.

When you say "better light return under the scope" what scope do you mean? Did you see that diamond with an ASET or Idealscope?

In the end, if you like the way the diamond looks, then you like it. Our opinions won't help. The angles on that 60/60 would not be my choice, but I'm not wearing it.

It is very possible your jeweler can 'call' the diamonds I posted from JA. You can maybe get one or two and compare them...

It was under a "Light Path Scope." Is that the same as an Idealscope?

Also, out of option #1 and option #2, which is better?
