Advice on my first real e-ring (upgrade) purchase online

I'm finally ready to upgrade my little OEC to someting a bit more substantial. I've been mostly a lurker on PS for a year or so and have learned so much but now that I'm looking to buy I feel I know so little and would appreciate some advice. I am in love with a stone Parks Fine just posted and am thinking I might make a move but I guess I don't know what I should be asking/doing. Here's the link but I don't know how to hyperlink IG so I guess copy-paste?
If that doesn't work, here's the info listed:
2.43ct Ksi2 Peruzzi
Price is 8500

Questions:
  • I think this is a very fair price but just checking
  • What should I be asking when I contact them? I'm guessing more pictures for starters, is there more info I need?
  • Does anyone have any experience making a purchase online with this seller?
Any and all help greatly appreciated and TIA!

Oh, and if you look at this stone and say it's terrible in some way I'm not seeing, please tell me that too!

I know that Alex has a mixed reputation on these boards bc he can be a bit short and rude with customers. However, he posts gorgeous stones at fair prices, so I think many people would purchase from him if he had the right product at the right price. But just an FYI! Alex seems to respond best to people who know what they want and are direct (versus those who ask a lot of questions and aren't entirely sure what they want). He isn't the "hand holding" vendor type.

Peruzzi cuts are pretty rare, so honestly I don't really know how to evaluate them other than with your eyes. They aren't like modern rounds where you can largely use objective data to get a sense of whether a stone is ideal cut or not. But antique / fancy cuts are very different.

In case others are more familiar with peruzzi cuts than I am, here's the direct link:
EDIT. Seems like when I paste the link it somehow looks like a screenshot. But it's actually a link so if anyone clicks on it, it'll bring you to the page.

I would ask for dimensions (since I think these face up small, so you can't go on ct weight alone), and for GIA cert if he has it. And if he doesn't, it might be worth asking for the cost of getting it certified. Those are my thoughts, but again these cuts aren't my forte.

It's stunning. You don't see Peruzzi's that often so you'll have a unique piece of chunky bling. I have bought from Alex with no issue but yes, as @lovedogs said, he deals best with those who know what they want. Hopefully someone else can weigh in on whether it's a good Peruzzi or not.

I will surely keep all of this in mind when I interact with him, it'll put things into perspective at least. And I appreciate reminding me about dimensions, something I had thought of and later forgot!

Thank you so much!

You should be able to message him from his main IG page. When you’re scrolling click on the user’s handle or just search his name. I posted a pic below for you as reference. His email is also listed. He has beautiful items at fantastic prices. I would go for it! Sadly, I don’t know much about your cut or even OEC. I’m starting to research OEC. As I spend more time on PS I’m falling in love with them. C3CFCDB9-0D2B-4105-A06A-C5A6D29F86B8.png

Doh, I somehow didn't see that email address even though I looked for it a few times! I also didn't realize that the DM option is not available on the desktop version. I'm looking at my phone now to see if I can find it since I'm sure he sees that more frequently. Thank you!

Update: Just messaged (it worked!)

Alex has made me two engagement rings and a few other bands. I have never experienced him being short or a “mixed bag”. I always ask a lot of questions and he’s always been very responsive and kind. I highly recommend him. He has a great assortment of diamonds and if there’s something particular you’re looking for, just ask him. He has a personal collection too!

I think it's gorgeous. Alex has amazing pieces at such good prices. My only thought is that it looks like it has a very high crown, so might face up a little small? Maybe check the mm dimensions if finger coverage is a goal.

Good news is there is a GIA report

5192117271

measures: 7.30 x 6.98 x 6.44 mm

I'm drawn to the Peruzzi because it is uncommon and so pretty. I feel more comfortable understanding the OEC and OMC stats and appearances because I've read so much on here and am familiar with their patterns.

I'm hoping he will send a couple of pictures in different lighting too.

This is so exciting and I continue to learn so much from you!

Great news about the GIA cert, that helps a lot! My worry is that it faces up really small for the ct weight. That's common with old cuts and certainly doesn't mean the stone is any less pretty or unique, but it's important to keep in mind. What are the dimensions of your current stone?

I have noticed this stone months ago & have not forgotten it. There are so few!

There is a revival of the cut www, with less extreme proportions [guessing, since I have not seen reports of new Peruzzi!]

While it faces up smaller than other cuts do, it also has that amazingly high crown and I don't think you can discount that - I wouldn't judge this stone at all by face-up size because it's such an unusual cut.

Sorry to thread Jack. Do you have a thread on the bands? I'm having a hell of time finding someone to make them a) affordably and more importantly b) delicately styled. I love his posts and those 2 bands he just put up. I just wanna get my duckies in a row if I email and ask for a custom hunt and band

I am literally no help, but I love older cut stones like these and have been following Yoram over at gemconcepts because he has been cutting them (as posted above.)

This ring caught my eye too. If you aren't hung up on size I think it has an incredible presence but your hand size and taste will dictate that. And as others have said, no one else will have anything like it. Regardless, of size I think people will be curious and dare I say impressed. Plus I love the "temp" setting. It just is very sensual all around. Just my 2 cents

I honestly don't know, my current stone is 0.50 OEC and is in a setting that is about 7 mm so it that's the finger coverage I guess. I only care about the size because I have short fingers with awful knuckles. I don't know how much a mm would affect that though.

This is my current ring and the stone is an 8 mm moissanite

The peruzzi definitely will give you less coverage than the 8mm moissanite, and slightly more than the 7mm original setting (but of course the ratio of stone to setting will be much difffernt).

I took your advice and asked for a couple of stones in OMC and/or OEC, Peruzzi is still winning but giving some thought to the OMC so thank you.

Always good to know that you looked at other options and end up with the stone that speaks to you! Keep us posted

I think the super high crown of the Peruzzi will make it stand out more than you might think given it’s “only” 7.3 x 6.98. It’s going to have a lot of presence on the hand.

Hope you don't take my comments as disparaging to the stone, @Clunkygirl ! It's gorgeous, and if it speaks to you then 100% go for it. Just wanted to make sure you were aware of the face-up size, becuase I wouldn't want you to be disappointed by the size. But it's unique, and if you like the cut then I think it's a hard one to pass up becuase they aren't available often!

Absolutely not, I really want feedback, it's a big purchase for me and everyone responding is like having a knowledgeable friend coming along. I think that the size is an important consideration that I am keeping in mind. If I had time right now I'd take a short trip to NY since it's really not much more than shipping with insurance (but would I want to wear it home?).

I am glad that I asked about the ring, I think it's kept me from being too impulsive.

Now, it's time for me to look at it for the first time today!

Alex remade my wedding band and two engagement rings along with another band. Here are some rings he made for me:

Oh, very nice! Thank you for sharing these. So far he has been very responsive, we are trying to figure out if we can go to NY for a day and see the rings and stones in person, it's so hard!

So as I was looking at plane tickets I received an email notifying me that a ring I was seriously considering became available again from a PSer so fingers crossed it's available. It was between these two rings that I was debating!

I'm sorry to have asked so many questions about this ring to end up announcing that we did buy the OEC from a fellow PS member. It was a hard decision because once it sold I pretty much had made up my mind to get that amazing Peruzzi. When the ring became available again my husband said he felt both were excellent choices for different reasons but that I've been talking about OECs and DK for 2 years which has so far been unwavering. Plus, he assured me further that I can always get a Perruzi later, lol.

Honestly, thank you so very much. I really am impressed by how nice everyone is on all of PS and how you all took time out to help me.
