Hi all! First time poster here. I recently stumbled across this community and let me tell you that it has provided me with a wealth of knowledge so thank you all!

I was hoping to get some opinions and thoughts on this oval diamond I had in mind from JA:
https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/2.53-carat-g-color-si2-clarity-sku-8190902
See below for the GIA report.

A few questions in mind:
I am liking the size of this oval but am worried that the inclusions will not be eye clean. Should I be going down in size for better clarity?
Is this diamond considered good value?
Would the faint fluorescence be noticeable?
Does this diamond look slightly yellow?
Would there be any better alternative diamonds around this price range for a similar carat size?

Additionally, I was looking into a hidden halo underneath the diamond. Is there any chance having this halo would negatively affect the diamond in the way it sparkles since it sort of covers the diamond on the side?

I appreciate any feedback and thank you all in advance! :)

Hi @carrotrings

I'll try to answer your questions. My answers are in bold.

I am liking the size of this oval but am worried that the inclusions will not be eye clean.
I think there is a good chance it will not be eye-clean either. Did you ask JA to see what they thought?
Should I be going down in size for better clarity? Yes, but pay more attention to LxW because smaller carat weight can still be bigger in
Length and width than the one you posted.

Is this diamond considered good value?
The cut is ok, not great.
Would the faint fluorescence be noticeable?
Probably only under a black light.
Does this diamond look slightly yellow?
Probably just the photog setup. Have you seen a G colored oval? Ovals do tend to show more color in their mushy areas.
Would there be any better alternative diamonds around this price range for a similar carat size?
We'll have to look.

Additionally, I was looking into a hidden halo underneath the diamond. Is there any chance having this halo would negatively affect the diamond in the way it sparkles since it sort of covers the diamond on the side?
No, shouldnt be an issue.

As an example this stone is smaller in carat weight but bigger in LxW. May not be eye-clean either.

What is your max budget and do you have a ratio you like? Is G the lowest color?

You might call Yuketiel at ID Jewelry tomorrow and tell him what you are looking for. He is in NYC so access to stones near by.

He can tell you realistically what you can get for your budget.

You can also try looking at adiamor...

Hi @tyty333 - many thanks for your input! I definitely get where you are coming from about the L/W ratio and certain stone appearing bigger than their weight. However I also read that if it is too shallow and not enough depth that would also affect the sparkle in the stone? In this case what would be a good compromise so that I can maximize the size appearance without giving up too much of the sparkle?

To answer some of your questions, I I am currently looking at G to be the lowest color, a L/W ratio between 1.35 to 1.45 and around $20k budget (ideally over 2 ct but seems I may be a bit optimistic).

I was browsing the site you had posted and came across the stone below. What are you thoughts on the specs? Should I be looking at stones with similar depth and table % at my preferred L/W ratio?

I know nothing about choosing ovals. Listen to @tyty333, but I just want to say I like the looks of this one! Love that faceting! ...I rarely get excited over ovals
