We love to talk about what we're going to buy... there is often a next thing on the list even when we have something new in our hot little hands! In order to change things up, I want us all to dig into our jewellery boxes and appreciate what we already own! Yes, I am doing this because I am addicted and I have had to ban myself :naughty: ... but they say it is good to appreciate what you have, so here goes:

One of my pieces that I am showing more love to (recently) is a pearl necklace. They are low-grade pearls (haha very far away from AAA Akoya!) but it cost $2 on Ebay. I'll share the link if it's allowed. I bought 10 of them because I made fun little goodie bags for my girlfriends to give out at my bachelorette party. I desperately wanted to give them each a piece of jewellery (because I am addicted and love jewellery!) but the cost of buying higher quality pearls was absolutely out of the question. We had a very low budget wedding, but it was incredible and I was so happy! I'm getting off topic. The point is, the necklaces were a fun little trinket to put in the goodie bags. Pearls make me think of weddings, and they are also my sister's birthstone. My sister passed away several years ago, so it was a nice (but subtle) way to honour her and think of her in a way that isn't obvious to 50 wedding guests.

Little did I know, some of my girlfriends would go on to wear these necklaces to the wedding! I was surprised because I just thought it was a fun goodie bag thing. I was also very touched, and thought they looked great! The quality of the pearls was not high, but they still looked pretty.

Of course I got one of them for myself... hehe. :shifty:

And now that I have banned myself from buying new pieces, I am trying to appreciate the ones I have. The pearls are not strung with the lovely knotted string, so now I am saving up money to get it done professionally. I think I will have it done in November for my birthday! :appl: Please don't tell me it's not worth the cost - I own a beautiful strand of AA Freshwater graduated pearls, and I never wear it because I'm afraid to damage it. I know, I know, pearls are meant to be worn! HA. Oh well.

Please join in, and show & tell about some of your older pieces that deserve to be seen with new eyes! It's much easier on the pocketbook!

Hi! I think this is a great topic! It might be better suited to Show Me the Bling, and I am not sure, but pearls used to only be allowed in the Pearl forum. You might want to message the admin and ask if the pearl pic can stay and ask if the thread can be moved to Show Me the Bling. If it's not too late, you could delete this thread and post again in Show Me the Bling as this forum is mainly for diamond and setting questions and topics. I'll be thinking of something to post maybe tomorrow!

Hmm. Good point. Maybe this should have been in the pearls forum, but really I'd like to see a variety of pieces - coloured stones, diamonds, pearls, etc! Is there any forum where anything goes?

In the distant past under different ownership, pearls were not allowed here at all. But later there was a pearl forum added here, and pearls were supposed to be shown there only. I think if someone was showing their jewelry collection and it had pearls in a picture with other items, I doubt that would be a problem. You can post gemstones other than pearls, diamonds, and other fine jewelry in Show Me the Bling. But you can get clarification from the moderator. This hasn't come up in awhile. I think your topic is a good one and I think it will be interesting to see what people post!

By the way, I bought similar inexpensive pearls like that when we were in China as little gifts!
