Would you say that''s like a mint blue/green? It''s really beautiful. I love that you take lots of pics!! I always look so forward to your posts.

Thank you, TL. It does seem more minty to me but more on the blue side... I love how it glows and it''s such a beautiful cut. I''ll take some pictures of the new chrysoberyl here shortly and post them. I was supprised at how yellow that one is.

Oh mochi, it''s GORGEOUS and I love the color! It''s almost like an unheated aqua color.

Mochi that stone is stunning! I''m absolutely delighted that you love the cut so much, being another huge fan of Barry''s supernova oval. Yours looks much easier to photograph than mine (7.41ct silvery topaz). Do you have any side shots? I was playing with mine yesterday (took it to a jeweler) and realized how deep it was cut, and I''m wondering if all of them are like that. Either way, they live up to their name!

What does the "supernova" in the name mean anyway? My malaya garnet is a supernova oval, and I personally don''t like the standard oval shape (it''s a personal thing), but his ovals are gorgeous because the facet pattern is unique.

TL, it was designed to eliminate the bowtie effect (learned this from Barbara Smigel), and I think they do this quite efficiently. I don''t know about your guy''s stones, but there are certain angles from which almost every facet of my topaz is reflecting light.

Here is a side view of the stone.

I measured it and the depth is approximately 5.53mm

Freke... he''s cutting skills are fantastic. I definitely don''t see any bowtie in this oval. I think it''s more of a roval (round oval??)..heehee!

Another thing I like about Barry is that he gives a case with a glass top. Not all gem dealers do this. I know it''s probably not a big deal to most people, but I don''t like plastic gem cases, or worse yet - a plastic bag or diamond paper, when I''m spending a nice amount on a gem. Those gem boxes aren''t cheap.

Gene provides glass top gem jars as well.

Mochi, I love your stone from the side as well.

TL, I don''t think it''s cut too deep. More I look at this stone, the more I think it''s one of my favorite of my "small" collection.

Ltfirecraker, Innerkitten, Coati, and Diamond : Thank you so much!!

The supernova cut is excellent for ovals; it might be a tad deeper than the usual oval but the faceting helps eliminate that dreaded bowtie and brings extra sparkle to the gemstone.
