So some time ago DH called from work and said that it was announced that he's getting a huge promotion, towards which he had been working for years! He was delighted and so was i! Five minutes later my dear friend, (who was my maid of honour at my wedding and whose husband was my DH's best man), called and said that they were inviting us for dinner on Saturday night. I couldn't contain myself from happiness and went ahead and told her about the promotion, even though DH had suggested that we kept it a secret until he had seen all the signatures and it was official. In the mean time due to insignificant technicalities DH's promotion was delayed for two weeks. That Saturday night we arrived at our friends' house and the moment we entered: "SURPRIIIIISE"!!! They had turned the "Saturday night dinner" to "Promotion celebration party" and they had invited common friends to celebrate and bought gifts for DH etc. In the mean time DH is standing there completely astonished, trying to figure out what's happening and feeling sooooo bad.
I literally wanted to die!
Thank God not long afterwards the promotion became official but remembering that incident still gives me the shivers until today:wall:

Mortifying!!! But thank goodness the promotion eventually happened for him!

Well it's UK Mother's Day round the corner! What perfect timing to surprise you with your dream Tiffany ring to thank you for all your hard work and celebrate your joint success... Now that there's no Dom Perignon to help out... Just saying ;-)

There is something really special about the classic Tiffany solitaire! Is that the one you want?

Yes, the classic Tiffany knife edge solitaire in platinum. I would like at least 7mm on the diamond, so would be around 1.3 - 1.4 ct I think. And I'm colour sensitive & only own D, E & F diamonds (inherited stuff aside) so...... He's not going to be putting his hand in his pocket any time soon

Aww Congrats to you and Mr Alex @Alex T so happy for you both! Couldn't happen to a more lovely couple. A well deserved raise and much security for the future. XOXO

And I hope you enjoyed the Dom Perignon! There is always more where that came from so no worries.

Thank you! I feel like I'm tempting fate by discussing it, as the contracts aren't being dealt with until Tues & Wed this week, but it's a done deal & Mr T's co-owners are all in agreement, so there's no reason it would stall.

The girls are already talking about 'our new house' & making plans, bless them. We've all just been walking for a couple of hours & the main topic of conversation the ENTIRE time was a huge Edwardian house on the opposite side of the fields from where we live, which has just gone up for sale & would be within budget. They want the sellers to leave all their beautiful furniture though  We've promised them we'll book a viewing as soon as they ink on the papers is dry!

Around the holidays my husband sent me to relax while he cleaned up the kitchen after dinner. The next morning, I found his solution for storing the champagne  We have a little silicone flower stopper that he couldn’t find apparently, but his way did work!

Congratulations on such an exciting time! I hope your second bottle tastes even better than the first ❤️ Cheers to your family!

My husband discovered red champagne on a trip to Paris. It's not very common, so I brought him a couple bottles back after a trip to France with mom and dad. Well we had friends over the one day, and I accidentally popped one and served it to our friends!! Whoops! Only noticed when our friends started raving about the wine and asking for details. Got hubby a second glass and opened a different bottle real quick!

On the flip side, we have a celebratory bottle of Japanese red and a bottle of champagne that we bought in Brussels in 2014. Many events have come and gone (including getting married!) and we always forget about them in the moment!

Now you've got me looking up red champagne! How intriguing!

Glad your friends enjoyed the treat!

I am furious.

Really? You do want this marriage thing to last -- or just for him close that deal? :cool2:

This is what -- $100? And you're talking about a new house and a life of leisure?

If my spouse accidentally opened the "good" bottle of wine, we would accidentally have a celebration, I can tell you that.

PLUS: we have too many "good" bottles of wine that we better start to enjoy. We bought a cheapy wine-rack off of NextDoor during the pandemic. The nice guy who sold it said, "It's time to start drinking 'em and not just saving 'em!"

Thank you! A house move is definitely on the cards, but it needs to be the right place for all 4 of us. Our 10 year old wants desperately to move to get a bigger bedroom & more garden so she can keep chickens, but this is the only home they have ever known, it's a gorgeous home & in a perfect village where we know all the neighbours & land owners. There's been lots of tears from her, as she's very torn. There's a real old fashioned community here & we love it, but we want more space. We have seen a couple of perfect properties with lots of land, but in the opposite direction to the girls schools from where we are now. They don't want to be too far from their friends, especially the oldest, who will be socialising more with friends once Covid is over. So we are planning to sit tight but view anything that appeals. It's an exciting predicament! In an ideal world, one of the bigger houses in our village would be perfect, but property coming up for sale here is rare. It's in the hands of fate!

We just finished the last of the bottle :lickout: You're right - there will be other wines & I shall enjoy every single one!

Congratulations!!!! @Alex T hope your dream Tiffany ring happens soon =)2
This thread put a smile in my face =)2

Thank you! Trying to keep a lid on things as Mr T is finding this whole deal striking business very stressful & all consuming. I am being super supportive & trying to find the humour in everything to lighten his mood, whilst being serious & not getting too giddy.

I have only spoken to my mother about it, so whilst the opening of Dom was an innocent accident, I'm glad i came here to vent as it's been good to talk about it.

As shocking as the first moment he did it, it’ll be a good memory to remember in the future.

Also, I was furious because he has form and he always falls asleep after a glass of bubbles. It was quite late & I knew straight away it would be wasted, not drunk leisurely one late afternoon with us celebrating, savouring it & being happy about what is to come, like I had imagined in my romantic little head.

Just so you know... I'm really not that tight & i never get mad  I just slow motioned on the moment & it being imminently left open in the fridge, loosing it's sparkle!

I will buy another tomorrow & tell him not to touch it until the moment is here!

Got it! I realize you were just setting up your general question, too.

We were newly married and working on fixing up our first home. We were exhausted and starving, so my husband picked up McDonald's for dinner. While I busy washing my hands, I heard the cork pop. He thought he opened up a cheap bottle of bubbly, but opened up the Dom instead. We still joke about the time we sat on the floor eating fast food and drinking Dom out of plastic cups.

Ah, I love this! This officially makes you as classy as me, as the day we moved in here, we sat on floor cushions (sofas hadn't been delivered at that point) eating fish & chips & drinking Tattinger out of big coffee mugs

Could it be those specs but just not Tiffany and be doable that way?

@Alex T FWIW they do make champagne stoppers that are designed to keep the gas in the bottle and prevent the champers from going flat. In my experience they do work quite well. They are not expensive, here's an Amazon LINK to a typical example.

Fantastic - thanks for that! I was going to go with the clingfilm & hair bobble move that was mentioned further up this thread, but I'll check these out!

I'm not sure. Technically, yes & it would be far more affordable, but my heart sings for that Tiffany setting & I have never seen a repro that looks quite the same.

Wait and get the Tiffany Alex. I've wasted money trying to get less expensive versions of the thing I really want. It never works. Hold out for what your heart truly desires.

Yeah, I agree. And thank you - I know branded pieces aren't always popular, but that setting has always made my heart flutter :kiss2:
